2008 Ryan Verdugo
2009 Austin Ross (Vandy pitched a guy you might have heard of named Mike Minor)
2010 Anthony Renaudo
2011 DNP
2012 Aaron Nola
2013 Cody Glenn
2014 Jared Poche
2015 Jared Poche

He has never started his top arm in the SECt opener. He isn't going to start this year.

We have also never been in the single elimination portion of the bracket since this format started. All those times that you listed were double elim. Big difference.

So Vandy starts Mike Minor, and Paul still starts Austin Ross, and you don't think that's significant?

What Vandy did in 2009, has nothing to do with what we will do Tuesday.

It gives insight in to Mainieri's decision making. Are you really suggesting that what Mainieri has done previously isn't relevant in divining why he is doing what he's indicated he is going to do Tuesday? On what basis are you excluding over a decade of data points, including one where he knew Vandy was going to start their top arm and still chose his third arm?

If Mainieri's actual decision making in the past isn't relevant, what data are you using to indicate he will do something differently than he has done his entire time here?

You got all that from one sentence? Holy cow...

Being in a single elimination format, puts us in a much more vulnerable position. In 2009 we were in double elimination at that point. We can't afford to lose, due to what is on the line.

Unless he reverses course, we already have the datapoint that Mainieri doesn't think it is different because it is single elimination game one. So arguing that it is different and Mainieri will do something different isn't true. He views it exactly the same. He viewed it the same in 2009 when he started Ross even though Vandy was throwing a major leaguer.

Lsu has to play to win the tournament. That's the only result that matters. Beating UT doesn't do shite for you if you go out the next day. Pitching your ace against the weakest team you play in the tournament is laughably stupid.

I know Hoover isn't Omaha, but didn't PM get reamed pretty hard last year for worrying about Game 2 before winning Game 1 in Omaha?

Wonder if that'll factor into his decision.

Lsu does not go out the next day if they would lies because they would then be in a double elimination format. The Tuesday game is the single elimination game and a loss could possibly put the regional host site in jeopardy.

Pitching Lange in Tuesday opens up the possibility of bringing him back for a Sunday Championship Game.

Wth are you talking about? Regional host site is locked up. We could get bounced in 1st rd and that is still a lock without a doubt. Some of you guys are to funny.

LSU is hosting a regional regardless of what happens in Hoover. You're playing with house money in game 1. You play to win the tournament by giving yourself the best chance to beat Florida, that's pitching Lange on Wednesday.

Last time I checked Tennessee struggled against LSU no matter who was on the mound
