Pitching was the question going into the season and I think he has done a great job. Velocity has gone back up for most pitchers. Last week people were naming this the best team in school history.

lets see,
friday, we had great pitching, but only scored 1 run
saturday, pitching wasnt good, but we put up 22, so its moot
sunday, outside of paul bertuccini, our pitching was just fine, and we only scored 2 runs
not to mention, the 2 erros on friday and sunday
seems to me defense and lack of hitting cost us this series

i would say timeley hitting. We had some opportunities but the balls wouldn't drop. I counted about 1/2 dozen or more times in Sunday's game where we pounded the ball but it went right to the Illinois player.

this was our problem at the beginning of last season. i would say this season we have definitely improved. we still have work to do though.
if you compare where we were at this point last season, and where we are now, and then compare the talent levels, i am not worried at all.

If you are a baseball fan then you understand the ups and downs of the game. No team will go undefeated and some weekends the team just isnt there. Illinois kept getting bloop singles and doubles and we hit the ball hard but right at them. Baseball is a very fickle sport.

Yep..we need a new pitching coach....we really suck balls right now.

This board must have some people with a reading disability! Go back and read the whole original post! I am not convinced that we are as good as we could be if we had an assistant coach who had some pitching experience beyond High School but like I said in the original that catchers are sometimes considered to be good pitching coaches.

Miles failed to hire a qualified Def coordinator last year and Maineri failed to hire a def coordinator ( pitching coach ) for the baseball. The only coach on the team who has actual pitching experience at this level is student assistanc Kyle Beerbohm. However many baseball people think that some of the best pitching coaches are former catchers of which we have at least three on the staff!
Quite simply, you're a dumbass. Our pitching is what is allowing us to win each series in SEC play. Our hitting is what is slow to come around. Look no farther than today's game.

How could most of our pitchers be any better than they are right now?
Coleman, Ross, Ott, Matulis, and Ranaudo are all pitching outstandingly right now. Do we still need better pitching coaches, GeorgiaTech?

No we read it. And we all have watched the team this year win with pitching. You're just not a bright guy, nothing to apologize about.

The issue is definitely Landry and Gibbs. Hitting sucks... We better hope Dean comes around and saturday was not a fluke. It looks like all of our guys are just trying to hit it out instead of just making contact like Jared did today. It is pretty simple...

Biggest problem with Gibbs and Landry is the fact that they're so important to us defensively.

I agree on Gibbs and disagree on Landry.

here's Landry at the plate:
curve ball outside corner - swing and miss strike one
inside low fastball running over the back corner of the plate - swing and miss - strike 2
ball off of the plate - ball 1
ball close to outside corner of the plate maybe ball 2, but we let him foul this one off.
high heater outside of the strike zone - strike 3.

the weekend rotation's ERA is 2.27 and you don't think they're pitching as well as they could? Holy frick

SEC PITCHING STATS
1st in ERA
1st in opposing BA
1st in strikeouts
1st in saves
1st in runs allowed
2nd in hits allowed
1st in walks allowed
Sometimes it's best to know something about the subject. Otherwise, STFU.
