When it comes to overall basketball career, Shaq is #1 and it ain't even close. Shaq is considered a top 50 player of all-time. Now LSU career alone then its pistol, MAR, then Shaq...But you must also take into consideration that pistol played in an entirely different generation. Just like I believe that Shaq would take Wilt to school if both could play against each other in there primes, I believe Chris Jackson would take Pistol to school if they could somehow both be in there prime at the same time. That doesn't mean that I think Shaq should be ranked higher than Wilt or that CJ should be ranked higher than Pistol. I'm just saying that they played in different era's!

I don't know about that one though Pistol Pete was a player do shite that we do now in 2010. He helped change the game i'd take pete vs cj if they played one on one. I would love to see that

CJ is easily my favorite CBB player all-time. he was a one-man show and took down #1 UNLV.

I loved watching CJ, but give me a break. Pistol Pete averaged over 44 pts a game in three years with no three point line. AND everyone in the house knew he was going to shoot..and they still couldn't stop him. That's greatness defined, Pete's scoring records stand 4 decades later and it ain't close. To say no one will ever pass a basketball like he could goes without saying. CJ was a great one, but Pete stands alone.

Pistol is better than CJ, but MAR has every right to do what he did. That's what makes our country so great. He wasn't out protesting or trying to draw attention to himself. I don't agree with it, but he can do it.

Lots of educated posts in this thread. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf>>>>>>>>>>>any poster in this thread.

Would love to see his number retired in the Pmac, unfortunately I don't think that will happen.

Great to know that the ignorance and stupidity of most people hasn't jaded his love of the game.

Chris was EASILY the 2nd best player to ever wear the purple and gold, with apologies to His Shaqnificant.

I was in Denver when MAR started with his black separatist, Muslim infantilism.

He was at that point, a very sad spectacle, who had tried to replace his own alienation at the world (tourettes, extreme poverty, family dysfunction, really poorly educated, largely ignorant of any knowledge of American ideals & history) with some kind of meaning, some kind of value system, that would provide him with some inner peace.

Sadly for him, he picked one that leads only to further alienation, and that is Fundamental paranoid black separatism/jailhouse Islam.

I am glad he is doing well and living in Japan. I will always pull for him.

Remove the first and last sentences and I'm with you 100%.

Pistol is first with Shaq second, IMO. I just wish I could've gotten to watch Pete play live.

nah,

1.Pistol
2.MAR
3.Shaq

any other order is just not correct, CJ ressurrected LSU basketball at a time when it was nowhere, he was a one man show. As for a poster sayin Pete averaged 44 a game and it would be no contest between him and CJ, you forget Pete's dad was coach of the team then, and most all plays were designed for Pete, in other words HE WAS THE ONLY ONE SHOOTING THA BALL MOST OF THA DAMN TIME.

Chris was brilliant. Was my basketball hero. Way better than Shaq in college - not even close.

ETA: I agree his jersey needs to be hung from the rafters of the PMAC. It's borderline religious prejudice that it's not. Although if I had to pick a religion to be prejudiced against it would be Islam

CJ didn't resurrect anything. Dale couldn't coach but with his recruits LSU was in the Final Four in 1981 and 1986. We were one smashed telephone away from making the Dome Final Four in 1987. CJ was a fresh in 88-89. So he resurrected LSU from what exactly?

That being said, he was one of the most electrifying players I ever had the privelege of watching play. Agreed #2 after Pete.

I loved LSU basketball so much back then. I remember being so damned excited to watch Jefferson Pilot games on Wednesday night or whatever... then going to draw Tennessee or Auburn logos (or whatever arena LSU had been playing in) on our driveway in chalk and re-create Chris Jackson's moves after the game - or at least until the neighbor hollered at me to go inside, the ball bouncing was keeping him awake.

Great memories. Most powerful LSU memories from my childhood - even more so than football.

Past Dale Brown glory aside, and the man had enough talent in those Rudy Macklin, DeWayne Scale days which was late 70's, early 80's to win consecutive NCAA titles with a blindfold on and couldn't do it!

but after those glory days, LSU Basketball was on the decline until he recruited C Jackson, and the magic started again, that is what I mean by ressurrect. even with a loaded gun like CJ, and Shaq, and Stanley Roberts added later on he still couldn't win a title, just pathetic, anyway you look it!

but a lot of you try to downplay what a effect Jackson had on LSU basketball, and I'm callin that BS.
