according to an article in the ADVOCATE today. Tried to copy and paste from 2theadvocate.com but had no luck. Good read though. He's still considered the best player in the league and has the respect of his team mates. He's averaging 16 points a game and says he will play as long as God allows him to.

How is that?Is it too much to expect someone who is an American to stand for the pledge?

I think the point is that CJ/MAR did it out of (many would say misguided) political and religious beliefs ... not out of spite. Most folks would argue there's a statute of limitations on being a dumbass. Even if he still believes it.

It was not the pledge of Allegiance, it was the National Anthem and he stated the reasons for his decision were that "he couldn't acknowledge a flag from a country that was built on tyranny and opression." This country was somewhat built upon those principles thru slavery and we all know that, but for him to make millions of dollars from a business (NBA) that was founded in the USA was a little hypocritical on his part. He stands up for what he believes in and I'm cool with that. If he tried to burn the US flag with me around I would be in jail for clockin' his arse.

I'm sure it keeps him up at night knowing that papasmurf on tigerdroppings has yet to forgive him.

Not only that, but he wasn't doing it for spectacle. In fact, he tried to hide it, but was found himself at the wrong place one night, and the rest is history.

There are few people in this world that I am more willing to forgive than that guy. From everything I've heard about him, he's a great person, even if he was gullible enough to get mixed up with some less than stellar associations.

Odd that since 9/11 you don't see famous black athletes converting to Islam that often anymore......

He was awesome to watch in College. How Dale never got his ring with some of that talent is beyond me.

Chris was EASILY the 2nd best player to ever wear the purple and gold, with apologies to His Shaqnificant.

I was in Denver when MAR started with his black separatist, Muslim infantilism.

He was at that point, a very sad spectacle, who had tried to replace his own alienation at the world (tourettes, extreme poverty, family dysfunction, really poorly educated, largely ignorant of any knowledge of American ideals & history) with some kind of meaning, some kind of value system, that would provide him with some inner peace.

Sadly for him, he picked one that leads only to further alienation, and that is Fundamental paranoid black separatism/jailhouse Islam.

I am glad he is doing well and living in Japan. I will always pull for him.
