You realize most college freshmen gain about 40 lbs in a college lifting program right? You want to gain weight...you eat more clean proteins. You want to lose you take away some (and fats). It's pretty straight forward.

Actually protein builds/feeds muscle. You want to gain weight, eat more calories than your body requires to maintain your current weight. Vice versa to lose weight. A cleaner diet just means the weight gained will look a lot better.

More protein meaning in addition to the food you are already taking in which equals more calories.
