Exactly. 74th is nothing short of failure. Anyone trying to pretend otherwise can be described as nothing but a pumper.
To put things in perspective:
Florida 91
Tennessee 99
Missouri 101
Vandy 122 (out of 125)

Can you go ahead and list all the SEC averages over that period of time?

Hard to tell from your post. Are these the 5 year averages I asked for or just this year?

Man, if those are the 5 year averages, either Miles needs to fire every last soul associated with his offense or Miles needs to dis-invite himself from EVERY meeting or practice having to do with offense.

Just this year.....and why are you asking me research data for your thread about offensive rankings.

Some of this could be the Perrilloux effect. Notice how well we did first year of Crowton, first year of Stud and first year of Cam... Something happens between year one and year two with Les and the OC's... "I'm thinking we need to make a few adjustments this year..."

Like a Senior QB graduating and being replaced by a guy with all of one year in the program?

It carried that team to a NC after the defense collapsed midway in the year.

Correct. However that collapse was largely due to injuries. That defense needed a MASH unit by season's end but gutted out the game against UT and showed what a healthy unit could do against OSU. As for the offense, let's not pretend they weren't wonderfully talented. 7 or 8 of the offensive starters for LSU in the title game played in the NFL, not to mention others who came off of the bench. The '06 offense was actually more talented overall, just handcuffed early in the year by ultra conservative playcalling.

Yep, we lost almost our entire secondary and their backups in the UK loss. We were dominating before they started dropping.

Add that to the dline injuries suffered the next week against Auburn, and you're gonna have a bad day

Here are some interesting numbers over the last 10 years based on national statistics from Scoring Offense and Scoring Defense.

LSU 10 year average rank is 38th nationally in scoring offense and 16th in scoring defense.

The first 5 years for Miles the average was 34th and the last 5 years 43rd, which does not surprise me.

But the defense during the first 5 years average rank was 21st and the last 5 years 7th. While the offense has gotten worse the defense has gotten better

7 out the last ten years the defense has been ranked in the top 12 in scoring. Only 2 times in the last 10 has the offense been ranked in the top 12 in scoring, 2006&2007.

Is this accurate?

The JJ/JL show in 2011 was the 4th best offense in the SEC that year? Hard to believe

Miles doesn't run up the score on teams like some do. For that reason, it makes sense that if we are Top 12 in scoring D that we would ease off the gas on O.

Why try to air it out with 28-3 lead?

Is thread about scoring offense or total offense?

I know points are what counts, but a lot of the points scored in 2011 were due to defense and special teams creating a short field.

That's part of why I'm surprised were were in the top half of the SEC in offense that year.

I beg to differ with you. The 3 highest ranked scoring offenses under Miles were also his 3 highest final ranked teams of the year.

2006 9th in scoring, final rank in the poll 3
2007 12th in scoring, final rank in the poll 1
2011 17th in scoring, final rank in the poll 2

It started with total offense, but scoring has been mentioned as......does it ultimately matter if you can move the ball but cannot score.

We lose to Ark and Georgia without special teams.

What were LSUs defensive scoring rankings in 2006 and 2007? I remember more than a few shootouts in those years.

Also, LSU DST did their fair share of scoring as well but those TDs get calculated as scoring offense.
