When LSU wasn't on the "bubble board" on the selection show that consisted of like 15 teams that weren't making the field, I had a feeling we wouldn't be selected to the NIT.

We are saving face. They didn't want us.

There are a good amount of automatic bids to the NIT. Our RPI was still in the 90s. We were a bubble NIT team. It's very likely we didn't get selected for the NIT.

To pretend like we're "declining a bid," instead of the real reason: that we weren't selected

I thought it was because no one expected Ben to play in the NIT, which is why anyone would tune it anyways.

I agree, this looks like a face saving move.

Next year?...Johnny "Mr. All-World Recruiter" Jones isn't bringing in much to an already crappy team, right?

Huh, I assumed they were just doing us all a favor by not making us watch anymore.

Exactly what I'm saying.

To act as if we're declining a bid is hilarious, and it's funny that the basketball program thinks the fan base won't see right through it.

15 of 32 NIT bids are automatic bids to conference champions that lost in conference tournaments (this season). You'd think LSU is within 17 at-large teams, but the end of the season just soured opinions of the team so bad.

There are underlying reasons for this press release that I'm sure will come out over time. Maybe as early as Tuesday when Johnny talks to the press.

It's not like the NIT is that much better than the CBI. They're both irrelevant. It's the right thing to turn down anything less than the NCAA this year. Just put us all out of our misery.

Considering that not everyone in the fanbase follows the sport that closely, I'd be a little careful on that.

LSU put there basketball fate in one player, and he did not have the skill set to carry a team. JJ should have seen that early in the year, would have been a decent season with at least a bid to the dance.
