quote:You seem to be the retarded one. There are no seniors. Just one, Josh Gray. He probably doesn't care either. He has nothing to play for. No acclaim from the press, no improving his chance at the draft, no glory as we get our butt kicked the first game. No we aren't what you said.
Everyone saying good is retarded. This team was not very good but the seniors deserve the postseason.

CJJ is a horrible coach.
I will not watch LSU Basketball again until we begin SEC play.

quote:I agree with your first two sentences but after that you get a little hazy. What exactly would be the remedy if an athlete broke this contract and went pro early? Does the University seek monetary damages? How much could they ask for? Unfortunately it is not the NCAA that really has any say in when a player goes pro but rather it is on the NBA side of things. They are the only ones that can truly say when someone can become one of their employees. They like the way things are. They get a year to evaluate talent playing at a higher level and don't have to pay them while they are doing it.
I will be happy if all future one-and-dones pass on us. Allowing this practice has practically ruined college basketball. If the ncaa had shite for brains they would make it standardized across the board rule that a scholarship offer is a 3 or 4 year commitment with no other professional contract superseding until the end of term. It would be good for both the college sport and for the NBA. If a kid lets a high school prospect analyst convince him that he will be ready for pro ball in a year after graduating, let the nba pay to train him for that year instead of disrupting what used to be an interesting sport.

Terrible decision. Since when have we been good enough to turn down any post season bid? I could maybe understand football turning down a BS bowl, but not basketball.

This is the culmination of the tail wagging the dog. Johnny Jones cracking jokes at TAF events that Simmons would be here for 9 months is all the proof you need about the perils of empowering an 18 year old. It also explains why Simmons could give a shite about attending class.
The timing is also a bit to telling. We turned down the NIT and the next day Simmons signs with LeBrons people? Not so subtle and it appears to me his handlers told LSU to piss off. Thats where my money is at why we refused the bid.
This shite show is also a disaster on our national brand. Going out like punks with the #1 draft pick while the nation collectively asks "why did he go to LSU again?" or simply declaring "thats what he gets for going to LSU".
This situation could not have backfired worse.

So can someone summarize the leading, prevailing theory on what happened here?
Let me try and piece together:
- Ben Simmons and Father said they would not play in NIT due to risk of injury vs little/no reward
- LSU knew about this and did not want to risk further controversy of playing in the tournament without their most valuable player
- Athletic department called it "Johnny's decision" to wipe their hands clean and use Johnny as a scapegoat
- Johnny goes along with it (Joe Alleva tells him to) and gives his bullshite reason (it doesn't make any sense...more games is always better preparation than just practice).

Quitters. Plain and simple. All of them.
We are back to 1997 mode again...with no sanctions.

So, you really think it's better to go out on that turd of a loss? That is the taste in their mouths for six months.
Seriously, I am asking. Is that the right coaching decision?
I think it is more likely that he wanted to short circuit the embarrassment of possibly not receiving an invitation with this announcement.

"Johnnie Jones is a quitter."
that statement will be used by every coaching staff in the country, when it comes to to recruiting

I won't spend money or ever get excited about LSU basketball as long as JJ is coach. He has talented teams the past two years and he has wasted both years with junior high coaching.

That's not a bad thing. Use it as motivation to get better. If Jones is smart he'll put 71-38 everywhere, like Bama did after they lost to AU back in 2010. The Chicago Bears took the arse whipping they recieved from the 49ers in the NFC Championship game and used it to fuel their rise to the top of the league. Good teams use losses as motivation, shite teams let losses consume them. If they want to be a good team they'll use that loss to become better.

You guys need to channel this energy into a get rid of Alleva campaign. It does no good to get rid of Johnny Jones if we still have that idiot incompetent AD calling the shots. This program is going to implode if we don't get rid of this guy .

What the NCAA can do is to standardize the schoarship as a contract over all member
institutions. If a kid leaves early, fine, but enforce the noncompete clause with a court order. Basically looking for an injunction against professional play for the duration of the scholarship contract. This would benefit the NBA by giving them longer look at prospects.
