I know Bell, Kloss and Simmons didn't play this year. In my opinion, they have not been replaced by anybody of significance YET

Where is the power? Why is Coach Torina recruiting these 5'1" dwarfs and bunters that hit .240?

FIFY...

In all seriousness, Beth has been great for the program. These girls have been very successful under her.

I know Sanchez was a bit disappointing this season but practically everyone besides Jaquish and Landry were.

I've watched Sanchez play for years, she's had a lot of pop in her bat coming out travel ball and from her play with the Puerto Rican national team.

Last night I finally saw the power I've seen for years with her. Sanchez, and many others do have the ability to hit for power but we need to make adjustments offensively with our hitters

I don't think we are even closing bringing the best out of our hitters right now.

I'm dumbfounded someone like Amanda Doyle would hit below .240 on the season

I'm still waiting to see also if we decide to add a transfer. If we do I'm sure we will find out within the next month

I dont understand the hitting approach...

Stick your rear end out
Anchor your feet
Swing with your arms
Strike out

or..

Run wildly at the pitch and miss
Strike out

Tigerbait 357....what is the best place to get recruiting news.

It sounds like you are behind a change in the hitting coach position. If we already have the hitters on the team, it sure doesn't look like it to me

If the approach doesn't change then I expect Torina to do something herself.

She's been aggravated this entire season with the offense.

FloSoftball is probably the best place to get recruiting news

Slapping does work but Landry straight up played bad for the last month. She slapped all season and hit above .400

It can work but Landry and others just couldn't find a ball at all

CF Andrews
LF Griggs
2B Dawson
3B Sanchez
DH Springfield
1B Doyle
RF Thornhill
C Cunningham
SS Serrett

Doesn't look too promising offensively. Hopefully they will improve significantly.

you do not obviously understand softball. you do not have to step into pitches. foot placement, turning hips, type of swing and grip and reading pitches is the main factors. slapping works i have elaborated on it multiple times in many threads.

Antoine will start in RF

Caccamise and Cunningham will see first looks at catcher.

Sunseri will be used a lot in DH role, she is very powerful

Here's what I understand perfectly...

I'm tired of my TAF dollars going to a program that always gets to the dance and is constantly out coached and physically overwhelmed by opponents.

Getting there may be satisfactory to some of you, but for those of us that believe winning Championships rather than being bridesmaids means much more for the overall well being of the University as a whole, it's completely unsatisfactory. You want examples, look to Alabama and Florida, as they have used winning Championships as a catalyst to secure outside funding for their Universities.

I have enjoyed Tiger Droppings and the folks who post on the softball threads. No matter how much one may think he knows, there's always someone else who can bring in new info or perspective. Congrats to Beth on another great year, though it ended in a rough manner, LSU went further than most thought and beat higher ranked teams.

As for the 2018 season, I really think you cant write about 2018 without looking at 2017 all over again. With the exception of three players, we have everyone back next year. Same head coach, same batting coach (maybe).

Landry is gone, and though you may think talking about her is a waste of time, studying Landry, Doyle, and Springfield will tell you all you need to know about the hitting approach.

Just to get it out of the way, Landry has one of the best “eyes” for the strike zone. Her problem is, for the past month, and much of last year, she swung UNDER just about every pitch she missed. Rarely did she swing over. Slappers generally swing over, as they tend to aim for the top half of the ball. Landry lost her ability to make contact.

You'd think there would be a fix... but the same thing happened each week. At one point, Landry was batting .515, and a month's time, she went down to .420. During that stretch, there was not ONE game where she can multiple hits. Each game she hit in, she only got one hit.

You'd think, too, that someone would step in and tell her, “You might find it easier to make contact if you are not two feet down the baseline when you swing. Plant and swing.” Apparently, that didnt happen.

Look at Griggs, went all the way down to .280, then gets back to .326. How? Plant and swing away. 12 for 12 ...imagine that. Then.. for some reason, at the WCWS, she went back to chopping and slapping, and it affected her.

Doyle has two problems.. one she uses her vision backwards. The way you do it is you use your peripheral vision to see the pitcher, and that allows you to keep your head faced right in front of the strike zone, when the ball comes, you are looking straight ahead where the ball meets the bat.

Doyle turns her head toward the pitcher, then when the ball comes, she uses her peripheral vision to see the ball and bat meet. Dont believe me? Go watch a tape, watch when the ball is low in the zone, her head is facing the pitcher and she uses her lower field peripheral vision to track the ball into the strike zone.

Of course, pitch selection is a problem... and the solution she has found,, since she knows she is not good at pitch selection, is to swing at the first one. Apparently, someone told her last night to stop swinging at the first pitch. She actually let a strike go. She is just overwhelmed at the plate. This girl is going to be a terror by the time she gets to her senior year, she needs guidance. She has it all, and she is a first class, top tier softball player, A to Z. She needs a coach to coach her, thats all.

Springfield, started off great, and then when pitching got better, her average tanked. Bad mechanics ...sometimes you can get away with it, but it comes back to bite you, and that is what happened. That long, loopy, slow swing is no good for a 68 mph fastball. We all waited... we thought, surely, someone was working on her. She got benched and we thought, yeah, wait till she gets back.

She came back and was the same. She crouched a bit, but her swing is so loopy that she has to actually straighten up a bit before she swings because if she dont the bat will drag on the ground. No fix was put in. We found out she is a great, great bunter, and smart bunter, too, but her lack of hitting in the end really affected the team. Like Doyle, once she is fixed, she is going to be a killer. Already, as a freshman, she drives the ball further than any player we have seen.

So, that is the issue. … batting. Pitching will be the issue for 2019, but for 2018, what we need to do is HIT the ball.

Dont discount slapping altogether. Like bunting, it has its place.

We need a systematic approach to batting. Get that, or you wont make it to the WCWS next year.

We desperately need to fix mechanics of a lot of the hitters.

Too many flaws in their swings.
