That sucks they have to fundraise and whatnot. I played for the an LSU club team (soccer) and the school covered flights and hotels to two national tournaments. It was a lot of fun.

I'm not sure how much the UREC will fund playoff travel. I'm not privy to information between officers and the UREC. Most my information comes from Coach Red himself. And for some reason coaches are not supposed to have any direct contact with the UREC.

I just remember know that my freshman year the UREC paid our way to Westerns in Colorado, but we had to raise some money to go to California for the next round.

Also with the squad being on semi-probation after the suspension last season, I doubt the UREC is jumping up and down with excitement to send the team off on a big trip.

Goff Rugby - D1A Playoffs

Here's the GoffRugbyReport rundown for the opening round of playoff games. Here's the LSU breakdown written by Alex Goff.

Arizona at LSU

quote:

Louisiana State is still kind of an unknown for teams in this playoff, as they toil in relatively obscurity in the Red River. The Tigers, though, have some serious talent flanker Brennan Falcon, fullback Alec Miller, and flyhalf Cameron Troxler. And don’t forget the leadership of Christian Brower up front and the powerful running of Toddd Dupre at No. 8. They are an experienced group, a group that wants to finish the job. (Note-Falcon will be in Zimbabwe come game time, with the USA U20s.)

And Arizona
quote:

Arizona isn’t a poor team by any stretch, despite having lost five games. Those five losses have been to St. Mary’s, Utah, Cal, Lindenwood, and UCLA, with the UCLA loss only 18-12. In addition, the Wildcats are extremely young. Certainly flyhalf Kyle Rogers and lock Cesar Davila are upperclassmen, but the majority of their players are freshmen and sophomores. Some of those youngsters are well-known - Steven Branham, Ian Crilly, Jeremy Fleet, Matt Rogers, and Tyler Sousley are all former HS All Americans - but they’re still young. They’ve been able to start working together a little bit, and this game will be between an older, more tested club team against a younger, learning elevated club team. Arizona might well lose this game in the bayou. But if they do, know that it will just be a stepping stone to learning and growing for next year.

LSU will be without Brennan Falcon. Arizona will be without Steven Branham, Mason Pedersen, and Tyler Sousley. All of whom will suit up for the USA U-20 team in Zimbabwe.

I have a massive problem with this policy from the UREC. Very few other schools have this type of policy & it goes a long way in showing why successful teams such as rugby, wlax, mlax, & even the fishing clubs aren't more popular/supported by LSU fans than they are.

How does the UREC expect 18-22 year olds whom have never actually run or led a sports organization from an admin position to experience regular financial, media, & scheduling successes? It's no wonder that club teams often have games canceled, limited funds, incorrect fields lined, uniform orders delayed, limited media exposure, etc.

LSU rugby is by far 1 of the most consistently successful teams on campus (behind track & field) for the last 20 years. Yet such a minimal size of the LSU population (current students, alumni, parents/family of both) know we even have a rugby team.

After a slow start LSU knocks through a penalty kick. 3-0 Tigers.

Then commit a penalty deep in their own end. Tied up 3-3.

Mistakes keep killing the Tigers. A turnover deep in Arizona territory leads to a long break. Leading to an Arizona try.

8-3 Arizona at half.

8-3 Arizona at halftime. This is the first time LSU has trailed this year.

Some questionable wtf penalties by the ref. One on a lineout and another off the scrum. Allows Arizona another score. 15-3 Arizona.

Another penalty allows a score. This one an offsides from a kick in the end zone. I've literally never seen this one called. 22-3 Arizona. Nothing going LSU's way.

Another penalty. 25-3 Arizona.

There is no offsides/gain line in the tryzone. Wtf. That's a little known fact for some young players, not the ref though!

Garbage try with no time on the clock. Final Arizona 30 - LSU 10.

Top 12 finish, undefeated regular season, conference championship. Great season for the Tigers.

How did we beat the crap out of everyone during the regular season, then stink it up once we got to the playoffs?

We played a sloppy game. It was one of those games where it seemed like all if the bounces went against LSU. Every time LSU came close to scoring something would go wrong to take the pressure off.

The deciding point in the game was a 10 minute period where Arizona outscored LSU 13-0 with the help of penalty after penalty from LSU.

When things weren't going as expected for the first time this year LSU just couldn't bounce back and get things going. Every single time LSU gained some momentum they would screw up and shoot themselves in the foot, either by knocking the ball on or committing a penalty.

Another issue is that LSU hadn't been tested until today. In the meantime Arizona played some of the best teams in the country throughout the season. That experience is what helped them in sloppy conditions today.

The score is a poor indicator of how the game went. It was much closer than the score indicates.

Top 12 in the country when you get zero support, and very little funding from the school is much higher than mediocrity.

Plus they lose in a sloppy game while missing their best player.

I know you're trolling but stfu.

A top 12 and undefeated D1 regular season is a pretty damn good for a team coming off of suspension with 0 scholarship players.
