It could have been worse. They could have been on the Danzinger Bridge.

Here is the story from Jefferson's party POV. I highly doubt a very intelligent kid with absolutely no run in with the law would just assault a cop (and I'm not talking about Jefferson), especially when both his parents are cops

Why don't you do the same.

Do you really think kids who have no history problems with the police, who are honor students, and whose parent is a cop is going to attack a cop in full view of a crowd simply because that cop is handcuffing a friend?

More to this story.

I believe the cops story is that the honor student didnt strike him....

that was RJ after the honor student was grabbed by the officer (who grabbed him without cause).

None of those actions however excuse the actions of RJ.

Funny enough, the way I see it, the only one here who did nothing wrong is the honor student. Cursing at a cop isnt illegal.

This sounds really bad for the students
quote:

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office narcotics Deputy Joshua Collins was involved in an unrelated arrest in the shopping center's parking lot, according to an arrest affidavit.

The alleged instigator for the entire incident, Sampson allegedly began interfering with the investigation and refused to stop using foul language. When Collins told Sampson to stop using the profanities, Sampson allegedly responded, "f--- you, b---h," according to the affidavit.

quote:

Parade-goers claimed Sampson threw a pistol, but deputies never found one.

The cop wasn't hassling them, they started up with him

Also, eyewitnesses( that had no reason to lie) reported seeing a gun on one of the kids. Looks like the kids were drunk and being 'tough guys.' I think the cops are telling more of the truth.

The DA must also be pretty convinced that the cops are truthful since he upped the charges to felonies.

Sorry, but any kid named "Jefferson" shall no longer be considered for recruitment. Bad news all around. It may be unfair, but that's how it goes.

Does anybody really think that a cop would just invent a non-existent person to bolster his story about something that happened to a newsworthy person in the middle of a crowd at a big public event? Just use your heads, people. The kids knew he was a cop from the start, and are lying.

I live with a cop...said the same thing. Story doesn't add up

Some people swear they are Jesus Christ on Earth. N.O.P.D and J.P.D take no bs during Mardi Gras they were in plain clothes trying to grab his friend what would you have done. #freeRickyJ

But Rickey needs to be careful & try his best to avoid getting into any situations that may even remotely have a chance to lead to similar problems in the future.

Thank you!

Unglesby and attorney Logan Greenberg would not allow Jefferson to speak with a reporter after the arraignment, an uneventful hearing during which allegations surrounding the arrest were not discussed. "His entire high school career, he has only missed the honor roll twice," Unglesby said outside court. "He has never been in trouble his entire life. We look forward to sorting this out."

In an age where everybody has a 4.0, honor roll is the new C average. If Jeremy Hill and Mett are on the team I have no problem with Ricky at least getting an opportunity to let the legal system play out.

They might not have a reason to lie, but that doesn't mean they can't be mistaken. I find it odd that they were unable to find a gun in a parking lot.

What makes those eyewitnesses anymore reliable than the fellow students who say the undecover officer never identified himself as a cop?

Wheee.
The "family" thingy.
It is one of the really great oldies that pop up when some one has nothing interesting or intelligent to say. It's not as good as the "bar-be-cue" thingy though.
Now if you want to hit the top level of idiotic responses, try combining the two:

"Hey I bet you are great at the familly bar-be-cue." Now that would be hard to top wouldn't it?

the report and stories surrounding it are sketchy

Exactly what part of the story is sketchy? I know everybody on here acts like the cops are always dirty every time there is an incident. But it's not like it didn't happen directly in front of / to the arresting officer. I am not saying that Jefferson is guilty... I am just wondering what you and others found to be sketchy about the story.

So the cop says he did nothing wrong and followed procedure to the T. He also has a team of eyewitnesses that say he did everything right. The defendants claim they did nothing wrong and are good honor roll students who have never been in trouble a day in their lives. They also have a team of witnesses that say the cop was in the wrong. I'm thinking there is bullshite on both sides of this story.

Their friends.

I'm sure you can see how one will be believed over the other.

BTW, just because RJ's friend is an honor student...doesnt mean RJ becomes one too.
