My only counter to that argument is that it happens to every other team too.

So that means LSU would have a tough time in beating ULM?

Yep we sure do...right around 80% of the time. But constantly keeping inferior opponents in games will eventually result in losses that will cost the team championship opportunities. Whether is sec or national.

Love how u assume any fan not overjoyed by a 10 win season is a new fan. You can't compare lsu football in the 90's to today. We were not an elite championship caliber team then so 10 win seasons were great achievements. Now its certainly not bad but its underachieving now as opposed to overachieving based on talent alone in the 90's.

I am not upset with any SEC win no matter the team or their record...
This is not Idaho or Towson St....these are SEC teams with talent, considerable home field advantages etc.
Arkansas had enough talent to win 10 games last yr...not all of it graduated...they just have a bad lame duck coach but to make it seem like we have a overwhelming talent advantage is just not true...

Where were these great Arkansas players when they were getting blown out in their 7 earlier losses this year?

You can't use the *SEC games* excuse when Arkansas got blown out by Carolina, MS State, Alabama and A&M.

The majority on this board are half retarded.........ignore them
many on this board only want to bitch.
If I had to trade this team for any in the country I wouldn't.
I am first and foremost an LSU fan.
They can't be perfect, and yes I'm frustrated sometimes, but this team is still good.
The underachieving QB, and OL play is what's keeping lesser teams hanging around.
Our defense is young, they will get better, but if the Offense scores more or at least has more long drives then these games are not nearly as close as they are.

Bottom line, if there was a quick fix here I think LSU would do it.
There isn't.
Just enjoy the wins and hope the line play improves...

Ok but in THIS SEASON don't u think lsu was the far more talented team against auburn, ole miss, and Arkansas? My point is that I always hear the oh we always play them close excuse. But I don't understand why that's an excuse. We always beat miss st. But one day they will win against us..this particular year these games shouldn't have been close cause these are bad teams this year and it doesn't matter that they are sec. They are simply not good and have been regularly blown out all year.

And I've already said in other threads I forgive the auburn game. It was the first road start for mett. A fired up auburn team before they had quit. I don't really see that as a bad win cause of the timing of the game. But these last two weeks we have clearly not played a dominant brand of football that this team is capable of.

Lsu always plays auburn close, always plays ole miss close, always plays arky close...but why? It's a totally different team each year and this year lsu was far superior to all 3 so why is that always the excuse made to mask a team playing down to competition....yes lsu won all 3 and I'm happy they did but just because "we always play them close" doesn't mean these games in this particular season should've come down to the wire. These were not top 10 teams...just can't understand why this team struggles to put away opponents under this coaching staff.

Its play calling. Everyone knows what we going to run. How many times do we had off and run between the tackles on 1st down. When they know whats coming its hard to beat the man in front of you. So we get to 3rd and 7,8,9 now the D is playing 5 or 6 DB's.

Yeah at least if we are going to be a running team we can still do so creatively. Misdirection runs, counters, draws, runs out of the shotgun, different formations other than the eye. I don't know that we had one run other than hand offs up middle and skinny pitches up middle into a pile.

Saban's avg margin of victory against OM: 1.4
Miles's avg margin of victory against OM: 7.9

Saban's avg margin of victory against Ark: 10.2
Miles's avg margin of victory against Ark: 3.8

Saban's avg margin of victory against Aub: -0.3
Miles's avg margin of victory against Aub: 7.6

Ole Miss was a better team when Saban was here, Arkansas is a better team since Miles has been here and Auburn has been about equal.

Do you think nick sabans teams were as talented as miles teams. I don't. The 03 team was very talented defensively but outside of that the nick saban era was before lsu became elite talent wise imo. It set the foundation. Miles has done an outstanding job recruiting. I'll never question that. It's his player development and in game coaching decisions I question.

Coach Miles is great in some areas, but, only average in other areas.

He is NOT a great coach in all areas.

I'm tired of arguing with people about this on LSU message boards. I do expect LSU fans to defend Miles, and, I have no problem with that.

It's obvious to me that Miles is average in some areas of coaching, and, he is great in other areas.

I like to check non-LSU message boards from time to time, and, it's mostly LSU fans who think that Coach Miles is a great football coach in all areas. He's not a highly thought-of Gridiron Guru nation-wide. Pretty much only LSU fans think so.

But, really, it's futile to try to discuss the merits and demerits of Coach Miles on an LSU message board. An unbiased and thoughtful conversation cannot happen in such a forum.

No shite. If I had the energy, I'd go pull up some examples of truly embarrassing losses under Saban. Of course, they did pull that upset of the century against Troy 24-20.
