LSU Pitching Recruitment

Mainieri recruits a bunch of hard throwing guys from both sides of the mound. That leads to usually 2 main starters. He needs to recruit a knuckleballer to switch things up with the starters. Can you imagine going Lange on Friday night, a knuckleballer to switch things up on Saturday, then latz on Sunday. I don't know why he doesn't do it. It just makes sense.

Because there are so many knuckleballers coming out of high school...

I remember when we liked the different look Colin Strall gave us, then we discovered he couldn't repeat his crazy mechanics and throw strikes.
Best knuckler in LSU history: Ryan Theriot.

People don't learn to throw knuckleballs until they've given up on throwing regular pitches. Think about that.

I don't see anything wrong with having a staff like Florida's with a dozen guys throwing in the mid 90's

Hell yeah, a knuckler. That's what PM is missing.

Is this a joke? You do realize the knuckleball is nearly non-existent in today's game? And more often than not, knuckleballers aren't heavily recruited out of high school because they lack arm strength. For example, Tim Wakefield played college ball at Florida Tech...

yep. the knuckleballer is the missing piece. but why stop with one? get rid of the power arms, roll with nothing but knucklers from this point forward.

And Wakefield wasn't even a pitcher until he was in professional ball. He developed the knuckleball and started pitching in the minor leagues.

I disagree. I played with and against guys in high school that could throw the knuckle ball.

that, and some of the kids just take the money and get signed by MLB teams...most don't make it to campus.

Mainieri needs to replace Dunn with Phil Niekro. Then convert our current pitchers to knucklers.
Net result: LSU styles on all competition.

Rather than a knuckler, which is just silly, we need to take guys like Newman and try to convert them into starters.

to you it makes sense. to the rest of the college baseball world it is an unachievable idea. guess what that means?
I have never even heard of an effective knuckleballer in high school. in the pros, one comes up, what, once in a blue moon?

You don't recruit knuckleballers, you develop them
