We'll be #1 after next year with LF and Lange.

Billy Cannon being selected first in the AFL draft doesn't count extra?

It should.

Even if LF rushes for 2000 yards, 25 TDs, and wins the Heisman, Walker... pick any other award, he won't go 1st overall. The league doesn't put that high of a value on RBs. Yes, he'll probably be top 5, but definitely not #1. RBs carriers are too short for teams to invest that kind of money in them these days.

LSU did a fine job developing Simmons as a student and as an athlete during his many weeks on campus, probably, and the program was able to take full advantage of such a talent, ascending to its fourth season of 19-ish wins in a row. Surely the statue will arrive on campus next to Shaq's and Pistol Pete's very soon.

but...

The days of a RB going #1 in the NFL are long gone my good friend.

That's stupid as hell to say. If a team needs a RB to solidify their offense and LF crushes every rushing record and that team just so happens to be no 1. He will be selected no 1. You cant say its impossible is all I'm saying.

Teams that end up with the #1 overall pick tend have 1 thing in common.... the need for a QB. And if they don't need a QB they tend to go for impact players in the league... WRs, DLinemen, OTackles, ect. Teams understand they can get good production out a RB that doesn't cost them a fortune. The average carrier length for a good RB is like 6-8 years. No GM is going to invest close to $50 Million for 6-8 years. It's the same reason Reggie Bush didn't go 1st overall.

that's a stupid argument. It's not going to happen. Many teams will think that LF has to much wear at this point in his career too

Seimone Augustus was a number 1 pick in the WNBA...does that count? I know its the wnba, but that counts for something.

Adding the CFL, MLS and the WNBA would send UConn roaring to the top with nine total No. 1 picks.

If the '54 Baltimore Bullets could have a redo the Tigers would stand at six now. They chose Frank Selvy who had a good career but not the super-sensational career of the 2nd pick in that draft by the Hawks. Guy named Bob Petit.
