I think LSU will follow through with this pool. It has too much symbolism involved

We called it the library? No once called it Middleton. Is there another library and since when does anybody say Middleton?

Back in the day I spent a lot of time in there playing ball hockey (whats a canuck to do when he moves to LA and there is no hockey…..) Lots of good memories and made some good friends on that floor even had the top of my ear cut off by an errant stick (should have worn a brain bucket and visor …). Glad to see there is an excellent looking plan to redevelop the space – it’s valuable land and deserves attention.
No need for another pool and they are money pits that never return on their investment.

Ontario tiger when did you play hockey there. LSU had a street hockey league there in 75? I played in that league and it was my hockey ball that I kept in my freezer

My Facilities Management class got to tour this thing and our semester project was to figure out what we would choose to do with it. Our suggested keep everything the same as in the old days but have a retractable roof to cover the pool so it could be used at all times (yes, I know, expensive). It was cool to walk around in but it was pretty far gone. It's gonna take some work but it was awesome to go in there, since most recent and current students havent. This was the summer of 2011.

Yes, many. Hill Memorial being the first and most notable.

The Huey P. Long Field House was vibrant because it was the Student Union Building (SUB) in the old days and housed the post office. Everybody came thru at least once a day. There were no cell phones, ect., at that time, so it was a big mixing and meeting place. The old doughnut machine was classic. Best doughnuts ever. I can still taste them.

LSU had about 8-9000 students when I was there. Everybody but Baton Rouge Students and veterans lived on campus. As the University grew to about 29-30000 the demographics changed and they built a new SUB. The old Field House decayed. It will never be the same regardless of how they refurbish and remodel it. IMO a waste of money unless it can be used for some specific activities to draw the students.

HP Long Fieldhouse Planning, LSU

Plan to repurpose an abandoned historic fieldhouse into a collaborative teaching and learning center

Tipton was retained to develop a master plan for the redevelopment of the historic fieldhouse originally completed in 1932. The program goal is to raise funds for a complete renovation and addition to the fieldhouse which will incorporate individual units of the College of Human Sciences and Education, separated throughout the University into a collaborative unit. The renovation will provide a modern and efficient teaching and learning center, while celebrating and restoring the historic value of the building. The master plan was completed February 2013, and fundraising efforts are currently underway.

Back in the early 70's we used to roller skate inside the Huey P. Long Field House. When did that end?

I'm not sure but I do know that whole area won't be parking soon. They're about to build a new gymnastics facility right beside the basketball practice facility

Am I the only one who died laughing that the first girl you see in the rendering is staring at her phone? So realistic

Would love to see a pool like the old days, but I believe we are way beyond that. Way too much risk and insurance cost high
not to mention that it likely wouldn't get enough use to justify the very high maintenance of a swimming pool that size. I think its a decent idea.
