LSU is the premier program in college football right now

I was at the top of Grand Mesa in western Colorado yesterday and I ran into a couple of German tourists with LSU shirts. They catch all the games on the internet. I was in Kohl's today in Grand Junction and a kid yells out 'Go Tigers!'. This happens everywhere I go and I've lived in Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Nevada, and Alabama.
I think in terms of fan support and on field results LSU is regarded as the powerhouse program. Think about it: we have 2 national titles, a quirky kick-arse coach, the best stadium, the best field with that menacing tiger eye, the best unis, perennial bowl beatdowns, the meanest defense, a bunch of last second crazy wins, and the best, most active college football forums.
Just this year we will be ranked top 3 and have the premier matchup in the first half of the year. I can't even get tickets to LSU-Oregon without paying a shitload.
I don't post much but I've read this board everyday since 2001 and it seems that that there is too much 'are we elite' and 'who has the best tradition' bullshite. I think that fans of other teams are scared shitless of us. We'll either give them a VT style arse whipping or Miles will pull some voodoo shite in the last second. I'll bet Oregon fans are secretly quaking in their boots right now.
Nobody wants to play us because we're big, mean, physical, ugly, and we might let Mike out of the cage at anytime. Are we elite? Of course we are.
What say you?

I say you are delusional.

Purple and Gold glasses ftw.

I say you're pretty darn biased to say that with such certainty. One of the premier programs, sure.

Glad there is someone that has been on here longer and has post less me j/k

elite for nowagreed, but dont get too cocky. I remember the curley hallman days. The only time that people mentioned tigers was with a paper bag on their heads or at the zoo

I see where you're coming from. And I agree for the most part. When ANY team in the nation sees LSU on the other side of the field they have to respect us, no question. To me, that's what a premier team is. There's nothing wrong with being in this position. It's up in the air as to who is the "best" right now, but we're definitely in the conversation. I'll take it.

Name me a team with MORE overall talent than LSU.

Alabama. But really, does it matter how much talent we have overall? Does a talented safety balance out a lousy QB? No. Our QB has very limited talent and that is a position that outweighs any other by far.

He said "more".
LSU > Alabama at OL, WR, DL, TE. Tie at CB, S. Push at K, P. QB could be better for us as well.
And if anyone wants to argue OL & DL, check out last year's SEC stats. Alabama was abysmal in sacks and tackles for loss. And the Tide OL gave up more sacks than anyone not named Vanderbilt or Kentucky.

Alabama. But really
Bama is YOUNGER than LSU. LSU is VERY DEEP at ALL positions. AND has WAY more team speed. LSU>>>>>>>>Bama as far as talent. I would EVEN say FLA has more talent than Bama. It just needs to be coached right.

Very positive and some very correct observations however, nobody is afraid to play LSU not a 2nd team ACC team, Ole Miss, TN, some state schools - nobody and especially not AU, ARK and AL. And nor are they afraid to play at Tiger Stadium. With the ever increasing commercialism and day games, we have lost some of our game day advantage.
Don't underestimate Oregon. No Oregon fan is afraid to play LSU. All they have to do is watch their game against AU and then see us get kicked up and down the field by the AU offense.
We could get a huge eye awakening in the season opener. While plenty of preseason polls have us in the top 10 some also have us going 8 -4 ............
Keep up the optimism. Just IMHO, this regular season is going to possibly conclude as one of 2 extremes. We go 11 -1 or 8 -4 ...
Fans are going to be really happy or pissed off.

Why is talent being argued? It's irrelevant to the OP, which is delusional. LSU is one of the premier programs, but there are other schools with just as much fan support nationally

I don't think so. You could make the argument that we're the third best in our conference.
