according to the Wall Street Journal, the tv audience tuning into our 10 bowl games since 1998 has averaged almost 9% less than expected. for teams playing at least 6 bowl games in that span, we are near the bottom.

now, this is something that our AD & SID team should be looking into.

Why are we such a bad bowl draw nationally? i find this surprising. we've had some good match-ups: v. Oklahoma, Ohio State, Miami, Iowa, Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Illinois, GA Tech, etc.

Bowls are more worried about SELLING TICKETS than tv audience.

LSU does better than most at selling tickets to bowl games.

tv audience is important b/c the adds and the naming rights sold by bowls are based on projected viewership.

When Southern California is in a bowl game, TV viewers tune in. Same goes for Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame and most teams in the Big Ten

Miami
Notre Dame
and Ohio St. (Big Ten)

LSU has embarassed all three in bowl games.

I doubt it. TV audience makes the bowl more money in the long run. Depending on the bowl, schools guarantee so many tickets to be sold.

I have no reason to doubt you, but must be a store manager with ties to LSU who special ordered some of that. I am next door in New Hampshire near a large WM supercenter and last week they had NO LSU stuff at all in their college section. Caps included Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Alabama, but no LSU. Maybe it's just random distribution.

I like this site better - the Bowls & Television Ratings: Three Ways

LSU is still at the bottom. However, this site lists all teams throughout those years and they have Oklahoma at the very bottom.

A ten yr average starting in 98 is hopelessly skewed and relatively worthless as an indicator of current or more recent reality

Interesting. USC (5 yrs probation), Notre Dame 3 HCs in the last 10 yrs) and Michigan (who wants our coach) all in the top 5 w/ positive numbers. But a program with two crystal balls in the last 7 yrs is rated much lower. Also, Bama and Florida not mentioned. I question the research.

No they are not.. because each school is mandated to buy X amount of tickets and then the schools have to try and sell them

WSJ can go frick itself. Due limited reading time normally taken by a number of professional journals, I quit reading it some time ago ..... and beat the market quite well without it.

Who cares? So long as we win, that's all that matters.
