I don't see it happening unless we find a passing game in the next two weeks. We are still one dimensional on offense so expect the same results.

we aren't....weak interior D and no passing game will allow Bama to do what they always do...stack the box and toy with us.

Not to derail this terrible thread, but the biggest misconception out there is that Alabama consistently loads the box against us. It has been a long time since they’ve had to do that.

Frankly, I would not be at all shocked if we beat Bama, pleasantly surprised, yes, but not totally shocked.

We could not pass block for Etling against ole piss, that's why we went so heavy on the run. Not one wide receiver caught a pass, not one. Let that sink in. Bama is going to do what they have the last four years and sell out for the run and load the box and come after Etling. The only chance we have is if Canada can come up with some magic with pre snap movement, jet sweeps, quick throws, etc. and even if all that works we will need a few big plays, defensive score or a few turnovers to make it a game in Tuscaloosa...

When was the last time Bama stacked the box against us?

I can't wait to see what the "We didn't need to pass, they couldn't stop the run" retards have to say after this game.

This game will be a prime example of why you should continue to work on the things you struggle with in games that you are in control (i.e. Ole Miss)

I know many people say this but I dont think thats what they mean. What they mean is, "Alabama sells out to the run against LSU." This is 100% true. The safetys and LBs run downhill or cheat forward as soon as the ball is snapped. They arent trying to diagnose pass because they know LSU hasnt had a threatening or even functioning passing attack in many years. This is what they mean when they say they "stack the box." It feels that way because they sell-out run. Theyre just not describing it accurately but they see what they see. The ball is snapped and the entire Alabama D is at the LOS clogging up holes.

Not many other teams play LSU this way because they fear getting beat on the corners or to a TE or RB leaking out to the seams or edge. These are things LSU has never really done much under Less Smiles and Alabama trusts their 4/5* safetys or CBs in coverage man-to-man. Other teams cant afford that risk because they dont have the guys in the secondary to play tight enough coverage.

There were a couple of posters on TD or SECRant that went over this in better detail on another thread. I dont feel like looking for it right now but it was on the first page yesterday.

The thing that I never understood about Less Smiles(and Ensmingers/CEOs last year) game plan against Alabama is, you know that your normal run-first game plan isnt going to work against Saban, so youre pretty much guaranteed an L. Its obvious you dont trust your passing game enough to win it for you and youre trying to minimize mistakes to try and keep it close but if you know youre going to get an L like you have the last 6 times, why not say "frick it" and just air it out and live with the results? I mean, you know youre not winning this game running. Like, 100% sure. You also know that the only teams that have beaten Saban have aired it out. Mistakes and all. So why not take a chance and at least look like you tried?

This is what frustrated LSU fans so much over the years with Les and why people considered him hardheaded and resistant to change. When you see something isnt working and you know its fatal why not at least try something different. You have nothing to lose if your going to die a slow death anyway. A close loss and a blow out loss is still a loss but I think fans would at least appreciate the effort if it didnt involve ramming your head into a brick wall.

^MAJOR THIS^

Ive been saying this for years. LSU cant develop a passing attack because they dont try to develop a passing attack. They try a little bit, it has growing pains, the coaching staff panics, they immediately abandon it for the year.

I was hoping Canada would be the QB whisperer he was at his other stops but it appears hes fallen into the same trap as Less Smiles. "Do what you do best" is great and all but you also have to prepare for the future when you know for a fact that "what you do best" isnt going to work against certain opponents. You have to have a plan B and its seemed for years, even with Ens/CEO last year, that they were perfectly OK with accepting the conciliatory prize of "a close loss" to Saban. Fans are tired of accepting 2nd place to Saban and want the team to go down in a blaze of glory airing it out on every down and putting pressure on Sabans secondary. It doesnt have to work but you have to try. Its your only chance. No team has beaten Saban running the ball and even just the threat of a passing attack, even if it doesnt work, will keep those LBs and S/CBs from crashing the LOS and at least give you a little wiggle room for your running game or glimmer of hope to bust some runs for a big game.

Against Sabans D you have to pass to open up the run. Even if the passes are short or constantly incomplete.

Matt Canada runs the show now.

If LSU wins this game it will be because of Matt Canada, Donnie Alexander, and Frank Herron.

We just dont match up with them very good this year. It has nothing to do with being on a roll etc. Jimmys and Joes. That said, anything can happen. Unlikely as hell but

I don’t know about book it, but I have decided to step out and have some faith for the game. I’m going to believe in this group of kids and coaching staff. If they don’t win, it won’t destroy me, but I’m gonna believe just the same.

You can book this. LSU will play their hearts out, and the coaches will make adjustments during the game. That in and of itself should be of encouragement to any LSU fan.

I appreciate the pump up. I don't think we win, but do believe we will play them hard as nails as we always do. We are just too young this year.

I love your optimism. Unless LSU can force multiple turnovers, I just don't see us prevailing in this one. Alabama's depth is just too much. Although, I do think LSU will beat the point spread...I don't think we lose by three touchdowns.
