Reminds me of another LSU coach who won a title early in his career and then hopped on the mediocrity train to ride out the rest of his career.
To be fair, Les did rebuild and returned to the championship game at least.

At least Mainieri builds up our hopes with some decent regular seasons. Smoke usually put that shite to bed with the quickness as I recall.

Paul is shitty in the postseason but any comparison made to Smoke Laval is asinine. We've been to Omaha 2 out of the last 3 years and I believe we have been a national seed 5 straight years. Smoke was also notorious for being a shitty recruiter and Paul continues to bring in #1 classes. We struggle in the postseason but are legitimately a Top 10 program, so any Laval comparisons are laughable.

Smoke
2002 - Super Regional
2003 - CWS
2004 - CWS
2005 - Regional
2006 - No tourney

Paul
2011 - No tourney
2012 - Super Regional
2013 - CWS
2014 - Regional
2015 - CWS

Seems a fair comparison to me. But don't let facts get in your way.

LSU fell apart under smoke, it's easy to look at post season success of smoke and some how thing he is similar to CPM. But if you lived through Smoke, and Paul it is very clear who is the better coach. Smoke took a team who won a championship in 2000 and in 6 years he missed the post season. Paul took a team who missed the post season for 2 straight seasons and won a national championship in 3 seasons. LSU is on an upwards trend since 2011.

That national title in 2009 is keeping Mainieri afloat. Otherwise, he's Smoke 2.0.

Sadly I agree. If he hadn't won that, his arse is gone.

We will stretch it to 7 if Lange gives up more than 2 runs

This looks to be more fact than fiction

Trust me i lived through the smoke years. The whole Smoke letting the program fall apart thing was overrated by the fan base. The fan base never got behind smoke. His biggest sin was that he followed a legend. It is always hard to follow a legend and throw in the fact he had a boring personality made it almost impossible for him to get the fans behind him. The second of the two years that we didn't make the postseason, 2007, was under CPM. Now granted he cleaned house which is totally understandable. I'm not taking away what Paul did from 2008 to 2009 but the results from 2010 to 2015 are way to similar to Smoke results. If we lose on Tuesday Paul needs to be held accountable.

Not just last six years. LSU has only won games at the CWS in 2009 since the 2000 season.

2003 and 2004 along with 2013 were all 2 and BBQ!

It weren't for Smoke's players, like Mitchell, Coleman, Shimpf, Dean, etc, CPM doesn't own a NC.

Don't let a national championship or the fact that Smoke inherited and destroyed college baseball's preeminent program get in your way.

How peculiar that you left off the first 4 years of Paul's tenure. I wonder why.

Do you also want to compare conference championships, or do you want to continue to data mine to accompany your terrible understanding of trends?

PM's conference record (over 9 seasons):
SEC: 2009, 2012, 2015
SEC Tournament: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014

Smoke's (over 5 seasons):
2003 SEC Championship

As a bonus, here are the conference championships and tournaments he has won at UNF since 2011:

It is a fact and it sucks. As much as I dislike CPM and would love to blame this debacle on him......I can honestly say that I didn't see him field, hit, throw, or overthrow one ball today. This one is totally on the players.

Props to TCU for taking advantage of our frick ups and simply beating our azz.

While I don't entirely disagree with you...accountability belongs with the entire organization. CPM completely mailed it in once Poche went out. He does this when we are down in SEC series also. I honestly just don't think he is good at establishing leadership within the team and overall motivating the team. Foster was the only one that looked like he really wanted to win tonight. The rest seemed content to pack it up and go pro.
