LSU Fun Facts/Trivia

Hopefully this thread will take off and people can tell some good facts about LSU that aren't very well known.
I'll give a few to kick it off.
Mike VI, LSU's live tiger mascot, is visited by more than 100,000 people annually.
LSU is the one of the few universities in the country to offer a minor in French with an emphasis on Cajun French.
The LSU Memorial Tower, or the campanelle – Italian for little bell - was one of the first structures completed on the present campus. It was built in 1923 and dedicated in 1926 as a memorial to those who gave their lives during World War I.
During the 1930s, many of LSU's live oaks and magnolia trees were planted by landscape artist Steele Burden. The live oak trees on LSU's campus have been valued at $50 million. Through the LSU Foundation's "Endow an Oak" program, individuals and groups are able to endow live oaks across campus.
The LSU Indian mounds are located near the northwest corner of the campus. The two mounds were created by Native Americans more than 5,000 years ago and functioned as territorial markers or symbols of group identity. In 1999, the mounds, which are a part of a larger mound group throughout the state are older than any in North America, Mesoamerica or South America and predate the construction of the great Egyptian pyramids, were placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Yea and it makes the French textbook WAY more expensive.
Also, isn't the Bell tower the tallest of any other campus?

This is really cool. It kind of puts into perspective how dumb the people are that complain about their kids not being able to slide down the mounds on cardboard boxes because we're trying to preserve them.

Did you know using your LSU email address as your TD username may not be the best idea?

Bill Conti...who wrote the score for Rocky...went to LSU.
So did Dr. James Andrews and Stephan Stills, of Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

Did you know...
that in order for the Tigers to play in the Orange Bowl on Jan 1st, 1944 they had to have gas ration cards donated to them and ride down in fan's cars?
LSU won against Texas A&M. Future NFL HoF RB Steve Van Buren ran for 172 yrds, including a 63 yard TD run and also passed for two TDs.

I honestly thought the Indian mounds were some type of construction hills. Feel bad for letting my girls go down them now

What's the deal with the cannons on campus? I know they're special, just don't remember why.
Posted on 5/9/13 at 10:35 am to ProjectP2294
Sherman ran the school at one time. Donated the cannons

LSU's first bowl game was the Bacarid Bowl in Havana Cuba vs Havana University in 1907. The Tigers won 56-0.
