Coaching has been the Achilles heel in my opinion. A good coach will utilize the talent he has according to the players skills. Let's hope coaching doesn't continue to be our biggest obstacle concerning LSU football.

Other than the blip on the radar with Welter starting at MLB, LSU has been more than fine there. You went from Shepard to Minter to Beckwith. Minter had seeming 57 tackles against UF. I would say LSU pathetic offensive approach and WR's dropping balls left and right cost LSU that game.

LSU has had talent at QB. It's just hard to do anything when the HC's number one objective is not to make his QB a playmaker but rather someone who just hopefully doesn't frick things up. It's hard enough to be a QB in the SEC. It's even harder when your HC figuratively ties one arm behind your back. Over the last 6-7 years Alabama hasn't really had QB's that were significantly more physically talented than LSU. The difference is they found ways to play to their QB's strengths, while Les went into every game watering down his offense at all costs just to make sure his QB didn't screw up.

I don't think Etling is a "all time" QB, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him look like an All American this season compared to the QB's in Les's offense. Finally we have an OC/HC who realizes the QB is the engine that runs the offense. Not the trailer you drag along hoping it doesn't fall off the hitch when the road gets bumpy

Same for MLB- Funny how we have 3-4 NFL quality MLB's come out in the past few years, yet the coaching staff neglected to play them there in college.

We had to endure Welter starting when he was constantly overmatched while we were told that the others were either not ready or not equipped to play the position (playbook related or not).

Also, when Aranda arrived, these guys all of a sudden thrive? Once again, thanks Chavis and Miles for your inadequate coaching.

I'm a broken record on this but anytime I see a post about MLB/ILB I have to say I can't wait to see Devin White play full time. Outside of Guice, he's the guy I have circled on my must see list.

Etling is the other, for different reasons. I look forward to see how he plays in Canada's offense and being free from back pain which lingered most of last season. I hope for a breakout season, but his is more a case of cautious optimism.

That is true for every offense. Look at the Broncos around when they had Terrell Davis. They had the smallest line in all of the NFL, yet they could run. TD was often injured and the Broncos never missed a beat. They could, literally, put any RB on their roster back there and he'd gain 1000 yards.

I have zero clue as to why they still recruit jug butts with poor feet and poor endurance.

Denver was also notorious for "cut" blocking which was their version of legal chop blocking. DL were always concerned about playing the Broncos because they knew their knees/career was always at risk.

I don't know that it has totally been a talent issue. The offensive philosophy and inability to coach guys up have created a void at QB. No team gets a 5 star QB every year, but other teams consistently have gotten the best out of their players.

I'm really hoping the new coach staff will allow us to turn the corner.

The toss dive added nothing outside the opportunity for positive yardage that is attendant with literally every other type of play.
LSU pulled and ran mostly power off the toss, not dive.

The jet sweep keeps the defense honest and freezes defenders because they have to respect the speed, and you can do 10-fold the amounts of things you could do off of the toss-dive.
Not really.
The toss power (and dive) gets the same effect or even more when run in conjunction with the toss sweep a few times a game .... ..that play LSU rarely ran.

Welter started against UGA, Minted left the game against Fla and we have up the winning drive.

Lol. So Welter is supposed to plug the middle and run with the outside wrs down field? Murray had 300 yards and 4tds. But yes, let's blame Welter.

You do realize kwon Alexander broke his ankle that game right? By the end of that UF game, LSU was missing 22 scholarship players through injury or suspension. Florida won that game 14-6. LSU didn't score a freaking td. The game winning drive was in the 3rd quarter when they went up 7-6. The second td drive was after obj fumbled a 56 yard catch.

Quarter Back and depth at middle linebacker have been our Achilles Heel.

This is comically wrong. Offensive line and QB if you want just two positions. Sure we've been weak at QB, but look at how many offensive linemen we've put in the NFL. It's hard to remember a year when we didn't have a future NFL player at MLB.

You can fall back on the depth point, but when have we suffered from it, aside from Beckwith's sophomore season? But the oline has been around the SEC average throughout the Miles years. In most seasons we have one or two future NFL players out of five olinemen. That's terrible.

Quarter Back development

I disagree. Development has nothing to do with Brandon Harris throwing the ball to a wide open Wisconsin player to end our 2016 season before it really began.

Development has nothing to do with Jefferson's inability to complete a two yard pass to wide open receivers at Vanderbilt (I sat through that).

How about Mett chucking the Ole Miss game simply because of inaccurate throws?

How about Mett chucking the Clemson game when all he had to do was complete the ball to a wide open receiver in the flat?

These are not QB development issues. There is a reason that only one QB Miles recruited, Mett, is barely hanging in the NFL. It's because he's the only one talented enough, and he's barely talented enough.

I'm not excusing Miles and Cam. It was their job to get the right guys and coach them up. Their failure to do so - at QB and Oline - is why we lost SEC leadership to Bama.
