What is upsetting about the LSU Basketball team right now is that we have the #1 player/talent in the country in Ben Simmons, but what the rest of the country does not realize, yet we do, is that this team has a plethora of other really good players..yet we sit at 6-4.

I know the board has harped on this but how in the hell can LSU Basketball put a team on the court not committed to rebounding and playing defense. If were working hard but missing shots that is one thing, but to show the lack of EFFORT and lack of FOCUS this team was showing up until the last couple games was absolutely sickening. I have a friend in with the team and before the season he told me the team was all about winning (no attitudes) and while this seemed to be the case, it seemed at the same time they wouldn't man up and truly play hard to win the game, they were more interested in putting up points.

I've talked with my buddy and he thinks the team has turned the corner, at least he is hoping. 5 things LSU can control going forward that can make this season a successful one (cause it will be very upsetting if this team does not make the tourney).

1. Complete full games with great energy, hustle, full effort in rebounding, full effort on defense. You have the oportunity to play for LSU, this shouldn't need to be talkled about. I would be going crazy if I was Johnny (but that's not who he is)..

2. Our team is made to run the court and play fast. Lets put the press back into the mix and start playing a little faster. But still have a huge emphasis on playing high quality defense.

3. Get the ball to BEN FRICKING SIMMONS on the break! He might end up being one of the greatest fast break players in the history of the game, yet Josh grey and the rest of the guys won't hit him when the's streaking down the court...? He's the first thing that comes to my mind when we have a chance to run..

4. Start games off with an emphasis of getting to the rim. This will open up 3 point shots and help us get off to a high field goal percentage adding confidence to the shooters.

5. Take Josh Grey out at the end of blow outs!!! He plays 20 minutes a game but won't pass the ball to Shortess or Eddleston at the end of blowouts.. Come on dude.. My boy TQ is always lookin their way.

I feel better about this team since your buddy thinks this.

Where'd our press go? That's what I want to know. It is so stupid to be so guard heavy and not work other guards to death with at least some ball pressure up the floor.

So...so much fail.

For one, his name is Josh GRAY. If you're gonna criticize a guy, spell his name right. Al fans want to do the whole "throw the ball off the backboard" bullshite, but gray is usually out in front of the fast break. The hate for him is unreal.

You have any idea why we haven't been pressing? Because I do. A) in college now you get fouls if you touch someone. So automatically it's riskier. B) we have had numerous ppl in foul trouble every game. C) we have had at least one guard out every single game of the year which has hurt our depth. Johnny doesn't want our players to wear themselves out.

#5, gray passed to Eddlestone for a wide open layup last game and Eddlestone dropped it.

So slugging out in the lane playing man and matchup zone is going to protect our guys? I'm not seeing it. We can withstand fouls at guard. It is protecting the bigs that needs to happen. The press would be a great way to do that. We know this because we killed people earlier this year when we did it. You can press without trapping or going for steals. Not everything you do has to be designed around picking up fouls. You can work opposing guards and make them get into sets out of different angles or later than they want to. This is significant when you have trouble keeping guys out of the lane like we do.

@ LSUBUTT sorry I spelled his name wrong, not trying to criticize anybody here.

We have not had numerous people in foul trouble every game.. Yes, Simmons has fouled out twice that I can recall but other than that, guards have not been in foul trouble.
As far as lack of depth with guards, I find us an incredibly deep team when it comes to the guard position. Not counting Simmons we have that can play right now Sampson, Quarterman, Blakeney, Hornsby and Gray at guard. That's pretty deep.
And as far as wearing themselves out, I don't think they are getting warn out in these games.

It sure seems that way. Even the last couple of games they coasted after getting the big leads. CJJ has to make it clear that's not acceptable. He doesn't chew arse much, so give 'em some bench time.

CJJ is not a 40 minutes of hell coach and never has been. But he has pressed some in the past. A little IMHO would be a good idea. I think we have the length, athleticism and guard depth to do so.

I actually agree with some of your points. Too often Josh looks to drive and finish and either gets stuffed at the basket or misses. He's very quick and a good penetrator, but should look to dish more often.

Ben Simmons needs Josh Gray's mindset when going to the goal.

Gray can look unstoppable at times getting to the goal, but those times have been too far and few between.

Hell, he was making those Kentucky blue bloods look silly when we played 'em here last year. Wish he could bottle that.
