Its hard to tell but elbert did improve somewhat as a sophomore. He just needs minutes in games where the pace stays around 50/50

Elbert needs to be on a team that doesnt run...like at all. I really question some of the personnel choices Johnny makes. It makes no sense to have slow or lazy footed 7 footers in his scheme at all.

Ehh I kinda give Elbert somewhat of a pass. They have worked so hard with him. It's just very difficult when you are 7', find out you have diabetes, and have weight issues. Not a great combo for someone trying to increase their stamina.

He went from barely being able to walk fast in his freshman year to contributing his sophmore year. if he conitues to work hard I see no reason he won't become a steady player for us.

Being pretty permissive with this term. But yeah, he did improve a little bit.

I saw a slight improvement this year, but the guy just isn't athletic, has very slow feet and horrible footwork. He's a big body but really no more than that.

Can he improve? Sure, anyone can improve. But it would need to be monumental improvement to turn him into any kind of legit asset for us.

Malone was miles better last season, so I guess it depends how loose you are with your definition of "contributing".

Our issue was losing games to terrible teams in non conference.

Getting our shite stuffed by two sub-.500 SEC teams in the last week of the year and getting downright embarrassed in the SEC tourney didn't really help matters either

I'd rather beat all of the teams we should beat and lose to the teams we should lose to rather than blow our load on one random Kentucky win and then drop 2,3 or 4 games to Jr High teams

Quarterman was a cancer and for one I am glad he is gone.

Patterson/Mays
Blakeney/Jenkins
Sampson/Hayward
Epps/Reath/Sims
Victor/Robinson

Sad thing is Blakeney would be the only one that would sniff the starting lineup with most top 15 teams. Our recruiting of talent is just average and unless JJ some how figures it out we will be just average at best.

Idk if jp starts... he was pretty bad last season. Im hoping tone picks up where he left off and Sampson shows some confidence. He had some moments last year. If victor can stay out of foul trouble we could be a decent team. Nothing great but decent

Players do get better dude. Im not sure why LSU fans dont understand this.

And players can sometimes regress, TQ & JP, and sometimes not show any improvement at all, Epps & Malone...I think we all understand these things, dude.

Johnny boasted about a 19 win, 3rd place SEC finish this morning. Amazing accomplishment for having the best player in the nation and 3 or 4 other players that will play in the NBA or at least get good looks. Too bad the team was dysfunctional and the HC had no control over it

You're overstating the talent level on the team for starters.

As for the team chemistry, LSU does not have basketball stars on Ben's level come through as often as Duke or Kentucky. Had Ben gone there, he would not have gotten the hype that LSU gave him here.

That was only part of the problem though. Ben's a bit of a prima donna. Quarterman has a little bit of that as well. As such, they clashed. TQ turned into a ball hog who would almost never pass the ball.

Long story short- Ben was over publicized which went to his already big head. There was a lack of leadership on the team from the players and Jones' wasn't going to be a hard arse on Ben. Jones also couldn't appear to favorite Ben either if he had disputes with other players. He was basically in a lose-lose if the players couldn't get along and figure things out in the locker room on their own.

Yeah a major major weakness of the team next year will be only 2 quality bigs and that's assuming Reath is pretty decent. Victor and Reath will have to play 35 quality minutes a game for us to be any good, and I dont see that happening. Maybe Victor's rouge fouls will decrease?

How many quality bigs did we have this past season? Victor and Simmons were it. Reath could be better defensively than Simmons. I don't see a huge difference between last year and this year as far as post presence.

We really need either Epps or Elbert to at least become an average backup.

But, both JC guys have to be really good, and the JC guys don't normally pan out too well for us.

Josh Gray & Shavon Coleman just in the past 3 years.

Ben--#1 pick
Blakeney--will play in the NBA
Victor---might play in the NBA
TQ---will get serious NBA looks
Josh Gray---getting NBA looks

We had talent, not overstated. And you're right, we had no leadership from the top. Jones should have squashed the problems early on, even if it meant Kentucky Killer TQ had to either sit or go.

Josh couldn't perform with any consistency for Johnny. I don't think you should count him as a JC success. Shavon was a good team player.

ETA: Didn't Odo have similar JC stats to Reath?

Post presence or not, replacing a #1 pick is a step down no matter how you want to spin it.

Epps is not and will not be a big. Some of yall really need to understand he is just a tall 3 at best.
