Where do you think this team is 16 games in talent wise in comparison to teams past. Is Omaha a realistic goal anymore?

Its still early but do we have the pen, the gloves and the bats to win consistently now that SEC play has started?

This season feels like a let down from a talent standpoint. We have a decent team but in comparison to other teams we have fielded this team doesn't stack up talent wise. I hope the other teams in our league are down as much as we are. Maybe we can churn out some wins and make it to Omaha. That would be an over achievement at this point in the season given the skill that we have to work with.

the talent is certainly there but they are young. for us to be competitive in the sec and make a run into regionals/ supers we will have a little less margin for error when it comes to giving up unearned runs and leaving batters in scoring position.

In terms of how far we can go, ask me after our 2nd or 3rd sec series.

I've had them middle of the pack in SEC since early season. I think they may do slightly better with some "good baseball fortune" but there not at the top as in years past. Should be funnto watch it play out,

Good point. Youth is definitely a factor when looking at this team. Maybe talent is there the experience and development isnt. Would be a win to place in top 4 in SEC IMHO

Almost impossible to get a good read on them based on the schedule we have played so far. Ask again in 3-4 weeks.

I went into this season with really low expectations and treating it as a rebuilding year. That being said, we are better than I expected. I thought we'd have trouble generating runs, but this team swings the bat pretty well throughout the line-up. Concerns mirror last year and are related to pitching staff. Caleb Gilbert looks like the next star on the mound, but mid-inning/veteran guys like Bain and Bugg have been totally unreliable.

I see us around .500 in the SEC, which isn't that far from the top considering 20-10 can usually win the league. Auburn is a dumpster fire so that's nice road series to pick up some wins, but we'll likely take 2 of 6 at home vs. Vandy and Florida.

I think hosting a Regional, which is basically like finishing in top 16, would be a successful season for this team. Next year is the next Omaha run. Next year's recruiting class includes some big guys that throw heat and could get us there with seasoned bats returning from this season.

LSU baseball at a minimum every year should host a regional and get to a Super. That means you are one of the top 16 teams in the country and there is no reason LSU should ever be lower than that even in a rebuilding year.

After the A&M series you will have a good idea how good this team can be.

The SEC will bear it out.
It will be a grind this year and the SEC schedule is tougher this year.
They will probably host a regional but not super regional, being sent on the road for super will be tough anywhere they would have to go.
If they catch breaks in postseason they could make it back to Omaha but I'm still a little concerned about that 4th starter if it comes into play and need to see Valek in SEC play to see how he fares.

This team can't afford any more infield injuries or Dawson is going to have to step up big time.

Our one saving grace is that our toughest games are at home. Vandy, Arky, and Florida.

A&M is away, but they're overrated.

I think we can make a run at it.

The hitting is only going to get better. I'm being optimistic.

We will find out the answer to questions like this over the course of the season.

Bats have overachieved compared to my expectations. This is solid lineup top to bottom with some quality depth on the bench. That being said, opposing pitching is about to get a lot better so I'm still skeptical if the production will continue.

Pitching has underachieved. Lange's control is becoming a real issue. Poche is solid and Valek has been a pleasant surprise. But the bullpen, other than Gilbert has been a roller coaster ride. I had big expectations for McKay and he is not where I thought he would be to this point. Bugg and Bain are struggling. Latz may not pitch for the second straight season. Hopefully some kinks are worked out because there are no more cupcake series left on the schedule (well, maybe Auburn).

The optimist in me says that pitching will improve and become what we expected in the preseason. The bats will cool a little but produce enough to keep us in every game. I think LSU finishes top 3 in the SEC and will finish somewhere around 18-12 in SEC play.

Regional host and just miss a national seed.
