this is my first post on TD in several yrs, so my apologies in advance if this has been covered before-- but i've never in my life seen anything like the traffic cluster that occurred following the LSU/Ole Miss game..having lived all over the country, i've long maintained that Baton Rouge has the worst traffic in America.. and i get that there are 10k new seats which means increased fan attendance-- but it's almost as if Les Miles himself designed the contraflow plan after the Ole Miss game, as terrible as it was.. typically after an LSU game, we'll stay up in the stadium for about an hour after the game ends, let the traffic subside, then we're on our merry way with minimal traffic.. after the Ole Miss game however, we stayed in the stadium for an hour, then came down and the roads were still gridlocked.. we had to wait an additional hour and then it was still bumper to bumper.. got back to our hotel (2 miles away) after midnight.. people we know who drove from NOLA and Lafayette didn't get home til 2am or 2:30 in the morning.. i wanted to find out if anyone here has any insight has to what went wrong, and what's being done (if anything) to prevent same from happening after the upcoming Bama game.. thanks in advance.

so we waited too long after the game? usually it works like a charm, guess i'll have to think about making a mad dash for the parking lot as soon as the clock hits triple zeroes..

We had issues getting out from CEBA leaving in the final 5 minutes of the 4th quarter against New Mexico State. Figured it would be easy since the stadium was empty at half and we were over an hour behind the crowd. It was miserable.
Cops were standing around with their fingers up their rear end. Just totally unacceptable yet nobody will do anything about it.
I almost loathe the thought of going to the AL game due to the traffic. Almost like you need to get so wasted that you pass out and have a
designated driver to avoid the misery of traffic.
No wonder people leave at half ...........

I think the Ole Miss you had a perfect mixed of the worst case scenario. Packed house and a game that went down to the last play. Is what they are doing the best plain, probably not. But I don't know what could be done to make it better when the crowd stays and the games goes to the last play.

Why does it matter how long you sit in the car? The a/c is on so you are not hot. The heater is on so you are not cold. You are entertained by the radio or DVD player.

Why does it matter what time you get back home or get back to the hotel. So you are tired? You will survive I promise.

Our hurry up rush rush daily living has created impatience. R-E-L-A-X!

When are you idiots going to learn.

It is simply against the laws of physics to be able to move that many cars out of that area in a timely fashion.

We left after the game was over from the South Club. Walking back to the Law School, there was no one in the quad, the parade ground, etc. Campus was a ghost town (everyone was on the field, LOL). We got in my car, dropped off a package in my daughter's car on sorority row, got on Dalrymple with no trouble, took I-10 to Lake Charles and I was in LC by 12:15 a.m. Easiest traffic I have ever encountered after a big game.

You might want to rethink where you are parking. It is better to walk farther to your car to escape the traffic than park closer and be stuck in traffic. Parking anywhere around fraternity row, law school or U High means that you can be on I-10 in less than 10 minutes (most of the time, less than 5 minutes). Once on I-10, you can get anywhere in Baton Rouge, drive east (of course, you have to take the lakes shortcut to I-10 East from Dalrymple) or drive west. Don't screw up my traffic pattern.

Actually was the easiest traffic out thus season; we stayed until the end of course then went right to CEBA lot, was no traffic, even College dr was smooth sailing to I-10. Guess all depends if catch it right time, but suspect Bama will be much worse just have to bear it!

Never in my life heard so many people bitch and moan about having to stay up late.

It is what it is. It's a traffic jam created by 100K people exiting a community that was not designed for that. Plan for it. Bring a cot and take an afternoon nap. Drink less if you must. It is seven or 8days a year---so it adds and extra 15 hours to your total football season commitment.

As for those with more that an hour or so drive, I never understood why not just grab a small cheat hotel with easy highway access for $50--again this adds $400 to your season.

Like the poster said earlier, come visit DC. This "traffic" nightmare you bitch about is called the daily
commute to and from work. A 7-10 mile commute can easily take an hour under normal circumstances.

Nicholson traffic is the major issue. The majority of the parking is on that side of campus with only a few exit routes. LSP needs to step their game up in terms of directing the traffic flow.

It's simple... Lsu has decided that it's responsibility is to get people out of campus.. Past that, the plan is a complete clusterfrick
