+1. Keep posting! Insights like this require research and you presented (IMHO) in logical and "unbiased" manner. You did well. Let's hope everything you wrote happens - especially the final score! Geaux Tigers!

Too early and too hostile for LSU or Texas to be clicking on all cylinders.

LSU talent barely prevails

The Texas defensive line will be as good or better than 2018 from the get go. The depth is much better, and Hagar is no longer logging snaps. Players like Ta'Quon Graham, Keondre Coburn, and Moro Ojomo will show they more than belong.

I think our defensive line will have the advantage over the LSU offensive line and really get after Burrow. If this doesn't happen it'll be a long day for the Longhorns, because your receivers are really good and our corners are really young.

In my view that's what will make or break the game for Texas. Can we win the line on defense.

On offense we'll need the right side of the line to not be a weakness or LSU will live in our backfield. We'll have to wait until later in camp to see how RG and RT are shaping up. Okafor at RT does not instill much confidence. But we're thinking Herb Hand has him there right now only to improve on his weaknesses, and that he'll actually start at RG and be our 3rd tackle.

I can understand the confidence in Graham because he had a couple sacks last year and will probably be better this year, but why is there confidence in Coburn? He had 2 tackles last year.

I think you’re pretty much spot on. Nice analysis.

Ditto, I agree that this game is one that will matter for both teams.

Because he really started to come on near the end of the season in practice and had a great game versus Georgia. Stats will not tell the tale for DL in a Todd Orlando 3 man front. They're asked to be space eaters. Our DL free up the b-backer, LB's and DBs to get on the stat sheet. Also, word is Coburn has moved to the top of the depth chart in camp. So there's that.

The line just moved from -3 LSU to a pick em. Vegas is starting to favor Texas.

Thanks for the analysis.

Looks like Texas is very solid in the secondary as is LSU. As always, it’s going to come down to how improved is our offensive line from last year. Can we shut down the running game with our front 7.

Texas WRs also look to be pretty solid and they will challenge our corners. We need to be able to drop back and cover and not have to load the box with our nickels and safeties.

I am not sure how this will shake out. If we can run the ball & protect the QB, and stop the run and make Ellingher throw more then we will be just fine. Maybe 10-17 point win.

Of course, if we are hit or miss and loss turnover battle then this one will undoubtedly take 4 full quarters to determine the winner.

I have competing visions I've dreamed in my head.

1. Our WRs aren't getting open, screens are getting snuffed, no holes for our RBs, and lots of 3 and outs. Ehlinger is being keyed on and isn't able to get much going on the ground when we eventually fall back to leaning on him.

We aren't getting pressure and your WRs are abusing our young corners.

LSU - 27
Texas - 17

2. The crowd is insane, we defer, Burrow is struggling early. We get a turnover and turn it into a quick 7. LSU's offense is, at that point in the season, a cheap facsimile of the high octane spreads we face in the Big XII, and must revert to a more traditional approach on offense... Orlando's defense expectantly shuts that down. Big game Herman's team is repeating their Georgia performance, and Ehlinger is in full beast mode.

Texas - 30
LSU - 14

If it goes the way you describe, the score will be way worse than that.

Good luck with #2.

The way I see #1 is that the abuse will take place inside 10-15 yards, and that Caden Sterns, Brandon Jones, BJ Foster, and Demarvion Overshown will keep the explosive plays to a minimum. Then LSU's well documented issues in the red zone will lead to field goals rather than TDs. Thus the prediction of 27 points.

I am not confident this thing will have a clear winner on the line of scrimmage one way or another for the entire game.

I predict it will go a lot like Auburn with some back and forth. Sometimes we look good on defense and at other times just let them get some chunk yardage on the ground and maybe blow a few coverages as happens early in the season.

We edge this one out by having more experience and more returning starters than Texas. The LSU offensive line is much improved. We eat on the ground with a committee of CEH, Curry & Emery.

Texas is at home and I think they will start out well right out of the gate and have some success and get the crowd going. Things settle down after the first quarter and we settle into the game.

Prediction:
LSU wins 31-24

Can someone explain the type of offense LSU is wanting to have this year? Are you wanting to go full on spread (OU, Oklahoma State) or pro style "power spread" (Ohio State, Texas)?

It’s hard to tell. I imagine it will be a lot like last year except some spread RPO concepts. Our WRs have the potential to be deep and talented in that kind of a system. We want to establish the run and be physical but don’t be surprised if we have the horses to open it up a little bit and stretch the field with Jefferson, Marshall, Sullivan(TE), Jamar Chaise, & Derrick Dillon.

They moved Sullivan to TE. He gained some weight. He is a monster. The passing coordinator wants to use him as a Jimmy Graham. Maybe isolate him with a nickel or LB and target him in that way like Gronk and Graham did.

Defensive Tackles or Offensive Tackles?

We feel very good at defensive tackles. We return starters and have added depth.

Offensive line in general should be improved but it’s hard to tell. They were average at best many times last season.

In general, a toss up to me is our offensive line versus yalls front 7/ defensive line. Something has got to give there in terms of rush offense and pas protection.

Y’all have some dudes that played very well but lost some key guys at DL and LB. Usually, games come down to both teams perceived weakest links against one another. That to me is one that will have heavy impact on the outcome.
