LSU Hoops (8-3) at North Texas (6-5) 7PM TV:NONE Radio:100.7
LSU heads to North Texas to play a game vs the Mean Green. They are led by 2 true freshman Chris Jones and Tony Mitchell who went to the Mean Green supporting a 5 star rating by recruiting sites. So far, he has been everything UNT had hoped. He leads the team in scoring (15.3) and assists (3.6). His main downfall has been his high turnover rate of 3.8 per game.
They have yet to beat a major competitor but have played teams such as Texas Tech close. Like LSU they are playing their best basketball at the present and are on a 4 game winning streak and are 4-0 at home. Most UNT fans are very excited about this team that lost a ton of players from last year when they beat the Tigers75-55. UNT is a team that has struggled extremely from behind the arc but they rarely shoot from out there anyway.
On defense they play a man to man and like to force turnovers. They have been very good at it also. They are much smaller than the Tigers down low (who isn’t) but not as much as some other teams we have played. They play a ton of freshman (4 play at least 30% of their minutes) and they have been major contributors so look for a team that will be inconsistent.
Top players (by minutes):
Chris Jones (PG 6’2” 195 Fresh) 15.3PPG, 4.2RPB, 3.6APG, 2.3SPG, 85%ft, 31%3pt
Alzee Williams (G 6’4” 170 Soph) 7.5PPG, 2.4RPG, 92%ft, 31$3pt
Roger Franklin (G 6’5” 215 Jr) 7.3PPG, 4.4RPG, 41%fg, 67%ft
Tony Mitchell (F 6'8" 220 Fresh) 12PPG, 9RPG, 1.5BPG, 59%fg
Jordan Williams (F 6’6” 190 Fresh) 11.1PPG, 5RPG, 73%ft
Kendrick Hogans (F 6’7” 222 Senior) 5.5PPG, 4.6RPG, 44%fg, 48%ft
They have 8 players averaging more than 5 points per game and as a team they average 39 rebounds per game. They are inconsistent but they have the players to be good in the future. I see the Tigers playing down to their competition a little this game and letting UNT keep it close.
Tony Mitchell plays some solid ball down low and the team has been much better since he has began playing (only 2 games thus far). Getting him into foul trouble needs to be priority #1.
Overall LSU needs to get the ball down low and look to draw some fouls. They were good at this in the Marquette game, but struggled to hit free throws. I don’t see that being a problem this game.
Prediction: LSU 74 UNT 62

Great work as usual SouthofSouth. Got a feeling, everyone is looking to Christmas. I think the Tigers might suffer an emotional letdown after the big win.
I got the Mean Green by 5 , 68-63. Hopefully, I will be wrong.

I can't pick the UNT in this one, but I wouldn't be surprised if we lost this one. UNT is a scary team cause they are inconstant, but solid; a lot like LSU this season. Anytime a team has a 5 star PG come in they have a chance to make plays on a good night. We need to lock down Chris Jones.
Watch Bass play a lot more than usual cause Trent obviously likes the way he plays defense on point guards.

Hate to tell you but that lineup is not correct, nor who is the best player on UNT.
Most likely the lineup will be:
Hogans F
Mitchell F
Willams G
Jones G
Willams G/F
And Tony Mitchell is their stud 5* Freshman that didn't get into Missouri last year and was cleared by the NCAA to play last Sat. The kid is a legit stud.

Yes, their 5-star freshman is Tony Mitchell, who is a forward. Chris Jones is good and is their leading scorer, but he was a 3-star recruit. Mitchell has only been eligible for two games.

Thanks South, keep up the good work. I have a feeling LSU will win this game, but I'm a little worried. LSU's defense gets it done on the road. LSU 71 UNT 58

Anyone going? One of the benefits of being a PhD student at UNT is free tickets... And I get "discounted" tickets for the LSU/UNT massacre in the fall...

FYI for those in Dallas/Fort Worth, the game is on TXA 21. Surprised they didn't syndicate it to CST or a Baton Rouge station.

Mitchell hasn't put up big numbers in his last two games. Only 10 points against Grambling St and 14 against Jackson St. They won both.

I know the phrase "trap game" is thrown around all the time, but this game has all the makings of one.
On the road.
Facing a decent team with some talent.
Three days before Christmas with a break from practice looming and a chance to go home for the last time in months(many of LSU's players aren't from LA.)
Emotional let down from coming off the biggest win in most of these guy's careers.
Hopefully Monday night was a spring-board for the season and not the peak. Early effort should set the tone for what to expect in this game.

20 minutes a game and pretty much is good for a double double..
Not to mention he is an excellent interior and weak-side defender...
From watching the two home games he doesn't really know the O yet. The more he plays, the better he is going to be.

Dude, he went for 14/10 and 10/8 in his first two college games ever, after sitting out for a 1.5 seasons. That is damn strong.

I have alsways done who plays the most minutes at each position. I missed their lineup some cause Mitchell hasn't been playing. but the guys I have above are the ones playing the majority of the minutes.

Well hell I don't think (0-8) Grambling St. or (2-10) Jackson St. had much in preventing this. UNT fans act like this guy is similar to Lebron James.

That was the lineup they used Tues.. They might go a little bigger, but it is pretty much mix and match with Mitchell coming in late..
It should be fun.. Depends a lot on the refs on the inside and if UNT can get this into a running game.. They are a team that struggles with the zone and can be pressed some.. Mitchell helps both of those, but his lack of knowledge of the O cna be exploited.

i expect a tough game. unt is more than capable of winning this game but i hope lsu wins to keep some momentum going and keep fans from jumping off the wagon this early.

Wasn't it amazing how many jumped on the wagon after Monday night? We've been here all year and then boom.

UNT is known for their music program(s). is that what your PhD is in?
