Yep. Cardinals are in the rear view mirror.

Goes to show how much the previous season still affects polls weeks into the next season

Yep. They're top 5, imo. But definitely not 1.

With a win next week, do we vault all the way to 3?

Yeah, I would guess we jump Ohio St. and Stanford, but slide in behind Clemson (since they also beat UGA, and of course us last year).

I just don't understand that concept. Can anyone explain why that is the case? What does last season have to do with this season, especially after 4 weeks.

In my opinion, polls should not be out until there is enough data on the current season. That's one thing the BCS definitely does right. I guess the talking heads need some controversy to talk about all week.

If we jump anyone it should be Clemson. They barely beat UGA at home.. and looked AWFUL this past week vs a scrub. We win impressively against UGA at UGA.. We absolutely jump Clemson. Last year is irrelevant. Just look at LSU this season. It's not the same.

Then why does Alabama have 90% of the first place votes?

Preseason rankings. But they are losing votes.

It's what makes polls so flawed from the start. Pre-season polls are based HEAVILY on last season's results. Which should have very little bearing on the upcoming season. Honestly, polls shouldn't come out until Week 7-8 after everyone plays a few conference games. Hell, if this was the first week the polls came out would anyone give Bama a #1 vote?

Everyone is so critical about keeping teams where they started in their preseason poll and basing wins/losses off that instead of not having a preconceived notion of where a team should be.

In the top 8 the following will play each other at some point either regular season or conference championship if they all get that far:

Bama - LSU
Oregon - Stanford
Clemson - Fla State

tOSU and UofL have cake walk compared to rest...IMHO

The folks organizing the playoff system would do well to prohibit the consideration of any poll that is published prior to the 7th week of the season. Of course, since ESPN owns college football, and the absence of meaningful polls would remove subject matter for their endless broadcast loops, it will never happen.
