Kind of early to tell, but with the way he is pitching I can see a top 10 round pick. He has shown that he can be effective as a starter as well as a closer.

I think he absolutely goes in the lower rounds. I'm going to say 5th round right now. He stays at about 90, up or down depending on how he feels emotionally, pitch count, etc. but he can run it up to 92-93 with that three quarters throw. He's very accurate and has shown that he can be a starter, middle relief, or closer. The guy has a lot of upside IMO because of that versatility.

The guy has to be a top 3 round pick imo. Valuable at all starting, mid relief, and closing. In the CWS last year some analysts were saying he would be a first rounder if he came back.

I say between rounds 5-8 right now, definitely turned out to be a good decision to come back as of now

What arm injury did he previously have?

I'd say definite single digit round. He's also a more proven commodity. I have a feeling teams will be drafting safer choices earlier in the draft this year and they won't be throwing out as much money as they used to.

Will never be higher than a 5th round pick....
He doesn't have much a ceiling, what you see is what you get. Not over powering stuff, no exclusive "out" pitch.
Probably will see some AAA and not get much further than that.

He has a pretty nasty slider that I would consider his out pitch.

You just described Chad Ogea.

And Paul Byrd.
Byrd had overpowering stuff in college. As a frosh he was hitting 94 mph and had a very hard, late breaking curveball. Not much control, but he later found that.

Byrd hasn't been able to throw that hard since he left, if he ever was really able to. He found control after his arm problems made him throw 88 consistently.

Get a clue dude. Did you just look up something a scout said about another prospect and just post it here? I def don't think that is the scouting report on Coleman

I am just not looking through P&G glasses. Baseball is the hardest sport to get to majors in, look at some of best players/pitchers we have produced.
Brett Laxton, Ed Yarnell, Lane Mestepey, Nate Bumstead.
Just don't see Coleman any different than anyone listed. He doesn't have that high ceiling teams are looking for, he is not over powering which teams like, he will get drafted but not in first round, or top 10 as some have said.

He threw hard in college. He could still throw hard until a few years ago. Not mid 90s, but upper 80s. He's not young anymore.

No tmitch, I have seen Coleman pitch a few years at LSU...
You don't need a scouting report if you take off P&G glasses and look at the player not the jersey.

My point is that Byrd hasn't had a "dominant out pitch" in ten years IMO. Throwing 92 in the majors isn't an out pitch. His change of speeds has been his biggest weapon along with staying in the zone.
Coleman is in the zone, has a tough delivery to stay with, has shown the improvement each year and versatility that makes him a nice commodity, and does have a great slider set up by a good fastball. He's not a guy that has Renaudo type fastball velocity but he can get it up there when need be.

Do teams usually take chances on pitchers with control problems in the later rounds if they have upsides with their velocity and a breaking balls?

the numbers say different
esp Mesetpay, who when healthy was very good, but never had MLB worthy pitches.
Bumstead? WTF?
