I didn't see them. Do you remember if it was several years or one specifically? How do we know it was the time slot and not the matchup that was the difference?

It was for the 2011 season, I think. So that was going up against the last UT-A&M game for the foreseeable future. LSU-Arky still beat it.

Dude stop it.......A&M never played Texas at the Cotton Bowl. You're getting it confused with the annual Texas-Oklahoma game played there.

That makes sense. But would it not stand to reason that if the Thanksgiving matchup was better it would draw better ratings?

No because it competes directly against NFL games

Grow up. Get over it. Nobody's doing anything bad to LSU.

It makes no sense to play college football on thanksgiving... It's like Texas a&m doesn't want LSU fans showing up in mass to college station.

Screw the Friday game also at home. LSU is being stupid if they don't protest this shite.

Who killed the tradition of playing Tulane every year?

The SEC made Alabama and Auburn break a tradition and play thanksgiving weekend rather than the week before. LSU isn't the only school that this happens to.

Of course we COULD see this as a potential two-day advantage we'd have over the East opponent in the SECCG (UGA/SC/UF/UT always play on Saturday that weekend), but we'd rather figure out a way to be jealous of Bama.

The ratings are driven by the average fan. The average fan will watch the NFL before college. Given a lack of the NFL, the average fan will watch the best college game available.

In all honesty, LSU ha had some serious rating when playing. IIRC LSU v. UA 1,2 & 3 were monsters for the network. If LSU is killin it we should easily be able to overcome Tony "oh shite he is picked off again" Romo and whoever they are playing agains. The Lions????Really??? F that. we got this

2012 Ratings by week

Last LSU-Ark got a 2.8, compared to 1.1 for Texas-TCU on Thanksgiving night. The year before it was 6.1, but that was a 1 v 3 matchup.

LSU-Arky was a top 3 game and the other was a 6-4 team vs a 6-5 team. Switch the slots and the ratings follow the matchup, imo.

Wouldn't even be head to head with those "traditional" games.

Why do people continue to mention the Cowboys and Lions? I feel like everyone is just claiming to watch football on Thanksgiving but not actually doing so.

LSU/A&M will never be opposite a Cowboys or Lions game.

but I don't get where all the talk about our Friday game being the "only game on" always comes from.

for frick sake Greg Brady, I didn't mean it that literally. The last couple of years, the pickings in Black Friday have been slim. Would you rather go up against Nebraska - Iowa or Steelers-Ravens? Doesn't take someone from the Nielsen Co to figure out what game will get the better ratings.

True dat. LSU vs. Collie dogs will probably get the highest ratings on Thanksgiving Day. LSU is becoming more of a national brand than many here believe. so, every one stay calm and drink on. LSU got this.

Tulane did by winning only 4 games against LSU since 1949.

Better than playing Arkansas on Thanksgiving. I'm glad we're constructing a real rivalry with aTm.

I respect you as a solid poster, I really do. But have you wathced the past 5 years of the NFL on Thanksgiving? Boooooring!!!! The last full NFL game I watched on Thanksgiving was Cowgirls/Saints. The rest just suck. I think that this is really making a mountain out of a molehill. I do think however that 2 years of "bridge scheduling" is more than enough. How can these dumbfricks in the SEC not figure this out yet?

Because they are idiots and don't know anything about TV ratings. The NFL routinely whips everything's arse in ratings. People can mock Dallas and Romo all they want, but Dallas will slaughter LSU, Alabama, Notre Dame, everyone in CFB in the ratings:

quote:

The FOX Thanksgiving game (Redskins-Cowboys) was watched by an average of 28.7 million viewers topping all programs for the week (November 19-25) and ranking as the most-watched show of the fall TV season.

by contrast the 2011 LSU-Bama GOTC had 18M viewers.
