He was fine until there was a weak balk call and he kind of lost it after that.

He was sharp through 3. Walked a guy and then gave up 3 two out hits in a row. He will be fine.

Been his biggest issue as a starter IMO. He’s great until he runs into a little trouble, then it falls apart

It’s a marathon not a sprint. I have confidence in him getting into the form LSU needs by mid season or so.

I felt like that unraveled him to. Was a shite call by an ump looking to be the hot take guy.....you could tell bt the grin when he made the call

None the less, he wants to be a Friday guy, he's gotta be able to fight through crap like that

Sometimes he’s able to overcome it. He had just thrown too many pitches in the inning to let him keep going.

I didn’t know what the balk was called on, but not a fan of a straight balk call while their pitcher got a pitch clock warning.

A little rust, it’s pretty normal.

As a guy who relies on his spin rate and movement on his fastball, I think the weather had an effect. It looked to be drizzling when he started to struggle. Less spin, less movement = missing his spots.

I said it on another post, Hurd is not a bad weather pitcher.

This. The moisture was making his pitches flat. He doesn't have enough gas to blow it by people, so if the pitches go flat, you are going to give up a lot of hard hits.

I think he deserves the chance to try to be the Friday guy, but I don't think he will end up being the Friday guy.

I think he balked twice on the same pitch.

Was at the game and it happened so quick I didn’t get to see it. Thanks for clarifying.

Absolutely concur; last season there were times when our pitching looked like garbage (except for Skenes of course). When I was a student I remember in 1996 and 1997 Skip’s teams went through the same mid-season type pitching slumps, especially the ‘96 team. That pitching looked so horrific fans, including myself, were saying we had zero shot to get to Omaha. I’ve learned my lesson!

The formula for this staff is to suck arse for 4 months then get hot for 3 weeks in June. Trust the process.

He was sitting 95-97 with his fastball. He's not Skenes but has plenty of gas

Yeah like when he gave up a 2 run homer to Langford in the winner take all game. Fell apart so much that he didn’t allow another hit… Hurd is fine. It’s February
