Did any of the 3 Manning’s ever really consider coming to LSU? Did LSU recruit them hard? (for the record, I view Manning’s as THE most overrated sports family ever, they are good, but 11 seasons of CF with one sec title, no nc, no Heisman’s and a sub .550 sec record as a family does not deserve 1/100th of the credit they get imo)

What? Two super bowls? And the other was, until brees showed up, the most beloved franchise player ever.

Don't want this to turn into a Manning thread, but I admit that they have 2 NFL SB rings, but I would even debate (for another thread) they are overrated in NFL too. (as an INDY fan are you happy with one sb title in PM's career???

Arguably the best qb in the league rt now. Brady isnt at the level he was at a few years ago. But football is a team game. In the NFL you cant have one player and win the superbowl. Saints, Packers, Indy, Pats, Giants, steelers. They had ultimate team performances during the season and in the playoffs during their sb runs. indy was in the dumps before manning showed up and has consistently made the play offs. But one player doesnt win you the superbowl. your manning statements really have nothing to do with lsu or myths at LSU. Besides we were rising out some of the worst seasons LSU has ever seen when the mannings were growing up.

This editorial was guaranteed to make a Manning thread. Should of just stuck to the questions.

4) After the 44-3 loss to Miami in 88, did Ruffin Rodrique really say that basically Miami knew they were playing against a great team? I was at that game and the quote must be wrong...he must have said " Miami knew they were playing in some really crappy weather and beat the snot out of us."

Was my first LSU game. I was 11. sitting in the upper deck where people's umbrellas were being blowin inside out.. all i remember is that it seemed like the rain came down every time the Tigers got the ball.

I don't know you personally so I'm not sure I'd call you an idiot but your arguments about why the Manning's suck is fairly idiotic.

This. Plus Arnsparger took the LSU golf coach with him to Florida (Buddy Alexander).

Fuc the manning family. From No never showed Lsu any love. Then to top it off Eli refuses to sign with San Diego, at the same time Pat Tillman turns down millions to go die for his country! You wana go buy yor kid a manning jersey, your what's wrong with this country. Go get your kid a Pat Tillman jersey and learn a lesson about who heroes really are. I respect Peyon as a player but the rest of the family can go to he'll!

quote:

I teach a guy who pitches within the dodgers farm system who told me Lee is an arrogant prick. I don't like the kid at all for what he did to Lsu. I dont give a shite about the money do the right thing when you make a commitment honor it. For those of you who want to talk dollars let's talk about Pat Tillman who turned down dollars to die for his county. Now that's a role model not some punk kid. I could care less if his arm is blown out it's called karma

I thought Zach Lee was the problem with this country.

Peyton went to Tennessee because Josh Booty was the greatest HS QB ever to that point statistically.

It should be noted that when Spurrier applied, his only head coaching experience was with the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL. He won there but wasn't the slam dunk choice for LSU some would make him out to be. He would have gone to Florida eventually, imo.

I get this.

However, it is a good topic for "what if".

Do you think LSU would have had the same kind of run UF did?

Or, do you think Spurrier whould have struggled like Archer?

Or, this question should be moved to the movie board. There, we let the "Back to the Future" fans conceptualize numerous potential alternative realities that could have played out, had Spurrier been hired at LSU.

Bordy, I like your "what if" spurrier question. IMO we would have done well but NOT had a UF run, nor would we have IMO had an FSU run if we got Bowden in 1980. The reason is LSU was not ready, Joe Dean, the ADept the Univ was not ready to committ $$$ etc yet. Again, we would have been much better off, but it took Dinardo getting the facilties started, Emmeret stepping up, the A Dept (Skip, Verge etc.) and lots of $$$ from a stepped up TAF when General R got there and pwoerful men like TAF Pres Guy from Shaw industries to all get behind the $$$ and univ support to get Saban what he needed to help get us to next step...just imo...

Because of his offensive system and the type of athletes Louisiana produces, I believe he would have thrived at LSU. His defensive coordiators would have made or broken him every year in the final poll standings, but offensively, we would have led the league for a decade. As much as I dislike him, he would have been almost the perfect hire at the time.

I like Archer, but he was too young and completely unproven.

After enduring the rain, wind and a 44 to 3 beating, what realy PO'ed many of us was Ruffin Rodique saying that "the score didn't indicate how close the game really was". I am still mad about that comment.

Steve Spurrier was in Baton Rouge for the interview when the players "struck" for Archer. Spurrier was brought to the Capital from the airport to meet some of the politicans instead of being taken to the campus. He asked why he wasn't being brought to the campus and he was told that this is Louisiana and you need to meet the politicans. I have always thought (but could be wrong) that people escorting Spurrier knew what was happening about Archer. Spurrier was "very upset" that he was not taken to the campus. In fact, he found out that Archer had the job while he was at the capital. And he imediately went back to the airport. He was some PO'ed and everyone knows how his instant temper reacts.

A mutual friend of Steve and myself told me that he "had a helava hard on for LSU" and he showed it during his years at Florida when he took no mercy on us.

In my opinion, he would not have done as well at LSU because of the outside pressures that would not have let him control the program as he was able to at Florida.

I am still bitter about Rodiques comment. I have always wondered what he dad said to him. His dad was a damn good football player at LSU.
