re: Tiger Stadium Dorms - oiltiger on 1/8/16 at 6:39 pm
I lived in North Stadium in the early 60's. For a poor kid whose parents could not afford to send to college, it was a wonderfully cheap place to live while at LSU. Air conditioning, in my home town when I was growing up, the only place that was air conditioned was the movie house....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)

re: If Players Aren't Going to Make It In the NBA, Why Not Stay? - oiltiger on 4/21/15 at 9:17 am
These are not student-athletes, they are athletes that happen to be playing at an university. They have never been taught the value of an education. I remember Anthony Toney who was a star at USL and then played in the NBA. After a game that he did very well, he was asked what his most fond memor...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)

re: Make the Call: Most Controversial LSU Football loss you witnessed - oiltiger on 4/29/14 at 11:55 am
1970 Notre Dame in South Bend 1979 USC in Tiger Stadium I don't know which one I would put at number 1 because both were absolutely terrible calls. The Chicago paper said after the Notre Dame game that if Notre Dame was number 1, then LSU was 1A. LSU should have tied Notre Dame and beat ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)

A friend of Spurrier told me that he is still pissed off about the way he was treated. When he asked why he was taken to the Capital instead of the campus, they replied "Boy, you don't understand Louisiana politics". He has not forgotten....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)

Asw I said in post some time ago, Spurrier was not only not given the coaching position instead of Archer, he was highly insulted and taken to the Capital instead of the LSU campus when he arrived in Baton Rouge, While there and being call a boy that doesn't understand Louisiana politics, Archer was...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Worst LSU coach in history? - oiltiger on 12/11/12 at 7:30 pm
Shortly after Hallman was hired, we had him at a function to welcome him to LSU. I by chance happened to be standing with him as we went through the buffet. As I was sitting down after listening to him, I said to myself, it is obvious that I don't know anything about football because the smart peopl...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: 9-1 in 1969 and no bowl - oiltiger on 12/2/12 at 9:29 pm
Notre Dame and the Cotton Bowl screwed us and I have never forgotten. It is hard to judge teams from different eras but in my opinion, the 1969 team was the best team LSU ever had....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: The "Going to Dallas" Multiple Choice question (Cotton Bowl) - oiltiger on 11/14/12 at 11:39 am
In 1969 the Cotton Bowl invited LSU. After the invitation, Notre Dame decided they would change their policy of not playing in bowls and would accept a bowl bid. The Cotton Bowl recinded their invitation to LSU and took Notre Dame. LSU, which had maybe the best team ever, did not go to a bowl be...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)
Let's stop talking about bowls - oiltiger on 11/7/12 at 8:25 pm
We have three more games to play. Let's win them and then see where we are. How many times over the years have we had an outstanding season ruined by losing to Arkansas when we never should have. Often in the last few minutes. Let's concern ourselves with Mississippi State, then Ole Miss, and the...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (13)
re: Did Bennie Logan tell Spurrier to STFU? - oiltiger on 10/14/12 at 5:50 pm
Spurrier's attitude to LSU is a result of the shabby way he was treated when he came here to be interviewed for the head coaching job. Archer got the job but Spurrier was demeaned by the people who picked him up at the airport. They took him to the capital instead of the campus. He asked why because...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)

<<It was as if some order was restored. LSU is still LSU, and South Carolina is still South Carolina. At least for one pivotal night. After the game, Spurrier threw his quarterback under the bus, saying, ''I don't know if he got hit in the head tonight or not. re: Zach Mettenberger= Ryan Leaf, with a chance to fix - oiltiger on 10/14/12 at 1:59 pm
In some ways Mett reminds me of Bert Jones first year. I have always defined it as POISE. Bert looked like a deer in the headlights and was sacked often his first year. Of course we had the two QB philosphy then and maybe he was only trying "to not make a mistake". Look how Bert developed and the...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)

/Chollly Mac lost support of the fans because they were not satisfied with winning 9 games and losing to Alabama. His recruiting suffered and the program went down. re: 1962 Orange Bowl vs Colorado - oiltiger on 9/27/12 at 9:09 pm
Some thoughts: No free substitution in those days. People played both offense and defense. Our only loss that year was to Rice. Defense was emphasized and LSU often kicked on third down. Field position was important. There was not as much passing as shown in that video. LSU had to hav...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
