That was always the rumor. I was at that game. I remember it being a bomb, but can't attest to it actually hitting the athletic building.

It was Del Unser.
Few of you will know who that it without googling,....and those who google will say "nah". But it's the correct answer
Ok...I'll bite. I remember him at the tail end of his career with the Phillies. Wikipedia says he played in college at Mississippi State...would have been in the mid 60's.
You were there and saw this? I'm curious to hear details. All the Box was back then was the grandstand. And don't say his homer hit the PMAC because it hadn't been built yet....

For the new Box, Ben McDonald said last night on the telecast that MSU's Sykes Orvis has the longest one and Deichmans was #2 but he did not give the Orvis distance.
I remember zunino for Florida hitting an absolute moon shot over the score board to to tie game in 9th.That was the start of the end for Matty ott. Gausman threw a gem against #1 Florida and it was all for not.

Off topic, but I witnessed a ground-rule double that bounced in fair play at about the 460' mark. At one time, the centerfield in Natchez, MS was 475'. During the SWAC conference championship, a guy from Jackson State hit a bomb to dead center that one-hopped over the fence. 15' longer or shorter and he would have had a homerun, but he had to settle for a double on the hardest hit ball that I ever witnessed.

Wasn't Orvis at Ole Piss, not Hell State?

Correct, Joey Belle killed a paki standing on the second floor of married student housing.

Brad Wilkerson for UF hit one that went across nicholson and into TS parking lot. But what everyone so far has failed to mention was THAT moonshot was actually a foul ball. He followed it up with a subsequent HR over right field fence and into the Box parking lot. But the moonshot was a foul ball.
THIS. Everyone is remembering the FOUL ball, but yeah he hit it across the street into TS parking lot.

Lol, cause I remember him putting one on a roof vs LSU. It was a long time ago. It must have been at Hoover

Are there any videos of these mythical bombs? I don't believe any of your memories.
I remember Linden pissed on one like few I've seen against ULM in an early season game in '01, I think. Not remembered well because it hit a pole in right. But he murdered it. Would have liked to have seen where it landed.

While not a home run, the hardest hit ball I ever personally saw was from Russ Johnson. He hit a rope that stayed waist high all the way to the left center fence. Hit with a thud and bounced to the left fielder all before Johnson got to first. What would have been a home run if a few feet higher turned into a single.

The best I personally witnessed was Brandon Larson cleared the left center lights and was steady climbing.

Gene Red Knight 1947 put one over LA 30. He also catching and from behind home plate, got pissed at the Ump and threw the ball over the centerfield fence for which he was ejected. First Team All SEC football, baseball and Track (SEC Champion in the Javelin). 12 Letters as well. 16 pick overall in the NFL Draft. He was a legend and not in the LSU Hall of Fame because he lacked 8 hours from graduating.

Zeph Zinsmen hit one that broke a window on the top story of the AA building, and it was still rising.
