The hard-on some of you have for this guy is borderline creepy….

That having been said, I am glad he is on our side now.

How can anyone not like Coach O?

He bleeds Purple and Gold and I feel like the his D-Line is going to play with the hottest of fires under them.

Why was he brought in as a DL coach and not as DC?

Wondered that for a while and this seems like a good place to ask

Coach O stole the show last night

He had about 12 zingers in 15 minutes. I was disappointed Steele couldn't make it. Coach O said, we were basing out of the 4-3 and had praises for a few guys that stood out this spring. Mentioned this was the best secondary he has been associated with especially Jamal Adams. Lamar Lewis is an absolute stud at the SAM linebacker and Godcheaux being the most impressive of the defensive lineman.

If I were him I'd be scared of A&M at the moment as well. Chavis probably still has some great inroads Kevin Steele isn't able to shoot down. Coach O being a native seems like a much better personality to mitigate the Chavis Effect.

Oh it's real, but has nothing to do with recruiting.

No kidding! This dude was an offensive guru and he figured out how to beat a ranked Bama team at UK.....which is really saying something.

He was innovative, for sure. He did have the benefit of Couch... Future #1 overall pick.

I guess my thinking is that DC is a step down from HC, and DL coach is a step down from DC. Coach O has been a successful HC (at least at USC for a short time), so wouldn't he be qualified as a DC?

Just seemed odd at the time. He could be a "motivator" type HC but not as good on Xs and Os. Much like Larry Johnson at OSU

It is nice getting away from the country club attitude of the coaches seem to be changed from the last few years.

By this reasoning every guy who ever was a head coach and won a single game "has been a successful HC". Being a HC is not about rah, rah. It's about being able to manage an extremely complex organization.

As we speak, Coach Miles has to be making sure the following things are working:

- His kids are progressing in school and tutoring program is working
- The weight and conditioning program is being effectively run
- Players' diets are being monitored
- Drug testing is being done (and negative results are achieved)
- His kids are staying out of trouble and avoiding bad influences
- Film study of next year's opponents are underway
- Offense, defense, and special team packages and game plans are being developed
- Coaches are being retained and new ones recruited
- The budget is being controlled and met
- Facilities improvement plans are being developed
- 2016 recruiting and scouting is being effectively carried out all across the country
- They are laying the foundation for 2017 recruiting, and beyond
- Spring football practice film is being reviewed and evaluated
- The LSU football brand is being burnished (media interviews, publications, web sites, etc.)
- Booster events, like the one that prompted this thread, are being adequately supported by his people

This is probably well short of the myriad things a HC has to get done. You still think O can be a HC because he can get a Laffy crowd of coonass boosters fired up?

I was more talking to his 6-2 record at USC a couple years ago while taking over. 6-2 is obviously a short period to evaluate, but he did well there with talent
