The last two years, I have seen LSU fall into a dangerous trend. Just when you think LSU has put the game away by taking a two score lead with 5 minutes or less, we go into a soft zone defense allow the other team to march right down the field and score, thus leaving the game up to the "hands team". So far we have recovered those kicks, but sooner or later we may get a bad bounce. The list from the last two years show:

Texas A&M - late LSU score, let them march down the field for a td
South Carolina - late LSU score, let them march down the field for a td
Ms State was down 14 and in the redzone late before the 100 yd pick six
Auburn was down 14 and 1st and goal at 4 yd line before a penalty...

Auburn was inches away from recovering an earlier kick, and I fear the day we don't recover the onsides kick in the last minute and a half of a one score game.

Even if they'd gotten the ball back, down 14 with under 5 to go, were we really leaving the game in the hands of the "hands team?" LET. IT. GO.

We took our foot off the gas in the 2nd quarter. "Let's punt and play defense"...then fake a field goal.

44 runs. 22 passes.

So you are complaining about something that hasn't happened to us? We won those games. Do you know what the percentage is of onside kick working when the other team is expecting it? Relax.

The point of the game is to WIN.

If we play our base D, then the chances increase dramatically of a huge play. So now you're down only 7 with 4 minutes left.

What's the better option now?

You do realize that we've run the ball more times the we've passed the ball in every game this season, right? Mett's numbers look better b/c he's more accurate and guys are dropping less balls, NOT because we're throwing it significantly more than last year. It was rainy, sloppy and wet out there. Before the game, did you honestly think "You know what? We're gonna sling it all over the field tonight!" unbelievable.

Auburn was at the goal line with 2:00 left in the game. IF they score there, they are down 7 needing to get the onsides kick. It has happened before. My point is that in the last two years, every time it looks like we have nailed the coffin, we go extremely soft on defense and give up 10-15 yards a play to allow the other team to march right down the field. A&M and South Carolina, both of whom had done nothing of offense in quite a while, easily marched down the field and scored to set up the onsides kick. Auburn was 4 yards away from it Saturday night.

Up 21 points at the beginning of the second quarter is not the time to start running down the clock.

Only thing I hope is the coaching staff realized at this point our O is better than our D. So we need to adjust. We can't slow things down and lean on our D like we've been able to do. Now we have the ability to put teams away and we have to do so.

I've got no problem with this. Especially considering the weather.

I didn't like giving away almost the entire 2nd quarter and basically giving them the opportunity to get back in the game.

We had a chance to play our backup qb in an SEC game but we gave away that opportunity.

Not mad, but it just makes you realize some things will never change. Can deal with it, but our starters didn't have to be on the field that long. 2 cents.

We should do a surprise onside kick opening kickoff of Georgia (or second half kickoff)

If the offense is clicking and you got 21 point lead what is wrong with staying with what is working? Keep the momentum going, defense doesn't stack the box against your run. Defense doesn't anticipate the next play and need to be ready for anything. We get the lead and are too predictable. You say it hasn't burned us but if offense sustains a drive it burns clock. If you keep putting a defense out there at the end of long game they fatigue eaily and don't have the gas in the tank to keep the rush going and wear down.

The closest we came to blowing a game because of this was the north carolina opener a few years back.

The first play of the second half was a pass. It was picked. We didn't go into safe mode until the middle of the 4th quarter.

I was at the game and stayed to the end. Why do you ask? Were you there?

Even though I disagree with the OP, this statement is false.
Let off the gas in the second quarter, not sure why....

they threw a 30+ yard TD the first play of the 4th quarter. Mett had 150+ yards passing in the second half

God forbid we run the ball in the rain against a weak d-line. Jesus Christ people
