Sorry, I mean straight toe kicking.

Are you talking about pre-Stenerud, straight-ahead Lou Groza type toe-kicking?

I don't remember that at all, and frankly think you are mistaken (or I don't understand the terminology).

Regardless, Wade Richey was one of the most highly-recruited, highly decorated high school kickers ever. And Dinardo wanted to radically change his kicking style? Doesn't compute.

He hit just a little over 70% in the NFL. By comparison Garrett Hartley hit over 80% & is unemployed. Minus one year Richie was poor in the NFL as well.

Wikipedia says it was a 61 yarder but doesn't say against who. So take for what you want.

lots of big leg guys can make a 60 plus in practice from a tee with nobody trying to block it...

in a game situation it is much more difficult

especially in college kicking from the ground

I remember Wade Richey made it into sports illustrated "this week's sign of the apocalypse" because of a hot tub injury:

Also remember listening to an lsu game on the radio, team was losing so the crowd was cheering for Richey touchbacks.

May have been one of the strongest leg kickers to have ever kicked in High school. Not sure why he couldn't get it together as a Tiger. I know he did tweak a hamstring and that's tough on a kicker. I don't know who the tigers had as a kicking coach at the time. But he came to Tigerland with expectations on him as high as any Kicker ever had and probably in the Top 10 Tigers no matter the position.

He went pro and they got him a real ST coach and he did just fine in the NFL.

Dinardo fricked that kids college career up, but he had a fuggin Christiano Rinaldo rifle for a leg.

During warm ups he'd kick from the kickoff line through the goal posts repeatedly.

Had a little walk-on time at LSU while he was there. Dude could thump the ball and get that deep thump sound that not many people can get. In the practice facility we would drop kick from the 40 and 50...he was setting it up on a tee at the opposite 40 and drilling it with room to spare. Guy had a once in a long time type leg...just didn't get it all put together for as great a career as most thought he should have.

What are you talking about? He never kicked straight on at LSU? No one has kicked that way since the 80s. If you were a GA at that time, you were obviously horrible at your job.

yes. i played for Acadiana High while he was there. He would kick field goals on our side of the 50 during our warm ups. A few years later, while he was in the pros i got to talk to him. i ask him what happened during the LSU years. He said he was hard head and did not listen to the coaches.

Huge leg, especially for back then when making a 50 was really something on the college level. Extremely shaky when it came to accuracy. He improved as a pro.

Well, WR naturally kicked with the side of his foot(the arch). Staff was trying to get him to kick with his toes straight on. I am not talking about his approach to the ball. Our definitions of soccer style must be different. Once he signed with San Fran, he went back to kicking with the side of his foot and got a whole lot better.
