The morons on this board have no idea what it takes to build a program.

To compare any program to Duke of the early 80's is idiotic in itself. It is a different day and time. In those days you could build a program cause you knew once you signed them they would be there for four years. Those days are over, now a days if you have seniors on your team they better get an education. We have enough talent to be better than we are. We have legit three guys who will make a living playing ball somewhere. Losing to Mizzou, Auburn and Miss state this year is inexcusable for this team with this much talent. You don't build programs anymore you must reload and coach your arse off. Think about this scenario, if Mickey and Martin leave this year, then Simmons comes in and is one and done we are in serious trouble. That is why college bb coaching is so hard. You must have a couple of guys every year who can play in the league to compete. People have no idea how hard it is to be successful in college bb consistently. I'm afraid CJJ is a recruiting machine, but the game coaching has a lot to be desired. It is hard to coach talented kids, but at some point you have to score coming out of timeouts, which is the way I grade coaches. It reminds me of Trent who may be the worst bb coach I have ever seen. CJJ has some help on the bench I am just not sure what their role is cause they are definitely not helping him game coach.

No one is asking us to be Wisconsin or Gonzaga. Just get a 10 seed in the tournament when you have top 3 SEC talent. This is absolutely ridiculous that anyone would think we don't have the talent to do at least that.

I think that this is disingenuous. If you really think that some folks on this board would be tickled with a 10th seed, period, you don't read this board very much. First, if we were to lose that game against - what would be - a 7th seed, there would be unmitigated vile spewed on here about our players and/or our coach.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, nothing short of undefeated seasons in football, basketball and baseball will satisfy a certain bunch of vocal idiots who post on this board. Even then, if any of our victories are less than decisive, then we could expect to see the same sort of critic on here bitching about that, too.

I guarantee I follow this team more than 90% of this board probably and I'd be ecstatic with a 10 seed and one and done this year

Hell, I just expect this team to make the tournament. And when they pick the 48 at larges I bet there are more than a couple who look like LSU.

For me the bottom line is if this team plays to their capability they are a tournament team. That's like playing in the 24th best bowl game getting in the tourney. It's really not that hard.

Quit rationalizing for the underachievement.

OP:

Those teams you listed play slow, half court, high IQ basketball using set plays.

They do that because they're cerebral more than they are talented.

Terrible comparisons. LSU plays out of control because they're athletic and low iq. That's essentially Johnny's style. Because he's not good enough as a coach to win the Wisconsin way. Those teams emphasize fundamentals above all else.
LSU shits on fundamentals.

That's why it's hard for me to become as passionate ab college basketball as much as I am the other 2 sports--bc all the truly great players bounce after their first year if they even go to college. For the UKs and Dukes of the world they just reload but for programs like LSU, as soon as you get truly great players, they're gone ASAP. Just hard to get pumped for elite players that you get to see play one season with an LSU uniform on. Imagine only getting to watch LF for one year of football. It's BS and as long as the one and done rule is in place, LSU-like programs will continue to go deep into the post season once every 15 or so years. It just sucks.

ETA: And LSU will never write the check for a big time coach that could both recruit and coach at a sustained elite level.

probably true and why we all want johnny to get it done...former player and a local guy, who wouldn't want him to succeed. but FFS...this group is far from perfect and has many flaws but they are too good to be just hoping to be on the bubble. this team should be locked in to a 7-10 seed easily. just very frustrating because you hate to see them put themselves in this position over and over again losing to these shitbox teams.
