I refuse to look at any projections..especially after last year. Getting all uppity/bent out of shape over someone else's worthless opinion just doesn't do it for me

I totally agree we are on right track.
But the conversation was pertaining to past not future.
Two things need to happen 2014.
1) decent qb play
2) defense has to play better ... Last year at times was embarrassing.

9-3 in this conference isn't exactly being disrespected. We lost to Ole Miss last year. Ole Miss.
Always talk Bama up, can you blame them? Without a miracle TD by Auburn with no time on the clock, there's a good chance that bama is playing in how many national championships in the last 5 years? 4. Them being talked up is warranted. Sorry
I think the point OP is trying to make is that Les should use this as motivation for the players.
Whether Bama deserves the credit or not, it's still good 'poster board material' to light a fire under some of these young guys.

defense gave up more points per game and yards per rush than 2008
2013 defense was the worst defense statistically in the les miles era IMO

I forgot the stat I heard/read about tackles for loss, but it was terrible.

I think having Tre White and Robinson in the fold with a year under their belt changes the entire complexion of our defense. You could start to see how they impacted things towards the end of the year as they got more comfortable in their roles. That's two legit, lock-down, future NFL corners. Throw in the embarrassment of riches we have at Safety, and I like our secondary. A lot.
I have confidence in the guys we have returning at DE, but I think a huge key to our overall defense will be if Q. Thomas can step up and be our guy up the middle. I think LaCouture has a really bright future, along with a couple others, but I don't know if they're ready to step in and be dominant.
And you know the whole thing with Welter, don't need to go into that. I hope the strides he apparently made in spring come to fruition because we need him to step up.

LSU is ranked No. 15 in Phil Steele's recent preseason top 40 for 2014.

This team and program has to be sick of being disrespected constantly, I know as someone who bleeds purple and gold, I am sick of it. It pisses me off when people talk down about LSU ...

Thing about welter (and all rest of lbs) is in 4 down defensive scheme, the effectiveness of Dline to take on blockers and let lbs roam free to make tackles is key.
We didn't do either one well last year.
I'm anxious to see if improved Dline play will result in improved LB play.

They are and some of us are. But life isnt fair and its time for LSU to restore order on the field.
This team is hungry and I do believe Miles is using this to their advantage.
15th? Does anyone really believe there are 14 schools that would be favored over LSU on a neutral field?

That game was tied and in Auburn. U can not say Bama wouldve won this game, if their coach had not tried a long field goal at the end of regulation.
Florida State says hello, no Notre Dame this time.
If not for a rematch after losing at home, and not getting to play that great Notre Dame team they may have only 1.

Bama usually finishes and LSU doesn't. Bamas coach is highly respected and lsu's isn't.
See how this works? We go through this every year and someone gets pissed off that we are being "disrespected". Why do you think that is?

I honestly feel sorry for you. You can't seen to glean the tiniest sliver of happiness from LSU football. Sad.
