May I ask, when did you start following LSU football?

I can't believe we are still to this day have the Saban vs. Miles discussion.

Anyone who has ever tried to build any kind of successful program (not just athletic) knows how hard a job it is. But what some people don't realize it that MAINTAINING a scuccessful program is dificult too. You have to fight the battle of complaincy when members of your program start to take some things from granted.

Miles has not been perfect at LSU, but guess what -- NEITHER WAS SABAN. I definitely feel that SABAN had more loses against teams that LSU should have definitely beaten. And yes, Miles biggest loss was that BAMA NC loss, but at leaset that wasn't a loss like the Saban loss to UAB.

Birth. And the only thing Dinardo did for LSU was have three bowl wins and a crappy Italian food joint. Should I bring up the 3-8 and 4-7 seasons? What a joke.

great point. my Dad took me into his office and introduced me to that exact quote when I was a kid....it's now on the wall of my office and, when needed, I get my kids to read it out loud.

clowns like cajunjj and the multitude of nega's don't get it because the easy path is the negative path.

Dinardo did leave good players for Saban to start with though. A terrible defensive Co. is the reason he got fired, not talent.

I thought it was the back to back losing seasons and a loss to OOC Houston school. His offense went downhill and he wasnt getting the caliber of players that we needed to win. Turdbag takes over and starts pulling great dudes in recruiting for 2 years launching us to win our 03 title.

Ha. Which was how long ago? And you must have been an exceptional baby to be following sports after emerging from the womb!

Yeah, and he absolutely destroyed a Saban coached team in one of those bowl games.

My point is, DiNardo was the one that first started putting the fence up around Louisiana. Go back and look at the important players Saban had on his first three teams at LSU. I wonder who brought them in...

Saban obviously had the better total tenure at LSU, and continued/improved upon what DiNardo had already accomplished. But don't completely dismiss what DiNardo did at LSU as he definitely got the ball rolling to make LSU the program that it is today.

this kid is probably 16 that thinks he know so much about LSU. I would like LSU to have a 2 or 3 year drought to push these fricks off the bandwagon.

agree to disagree. He actually lost recruits during his last two seasons. Dude gave us a spark that died when we went 4-7.

ETA: Did Curly give Gerry the spark?

Awesome! I would love so much to hear Les paraphrase this in one of his postgame conferences.

Did you really just use that amazing quote to describe the trials and tribulations of Les Mile's coaching career at LSU? Give me a fricking break.

I believe the quote was more apropos to the egg head "critics" like yourself than any "tribulations of Les Miles'".

The simple fact is: Les is in the arena. Do you dispute that?

Further, most of the idiots who post criticisms on here are not in the arena. Hence, according to the Roosevelt quote, they (ie you) don't matter.

That's the point of the OP, which is apparently beyond the comprehension of many posters on here.

Good Post Penrod and excellent feedback LSUnKATY

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How easy is it to take over after a legend. Ask Bill O'Brien. Look around at who in the history of coaching have been successful at that. After 9 years, CLM has proven he is more than capable of doing that and running this huge program successfully.

Alot of bad luck has hit the LSU program over the years, way more than most programs. Les just keeps putting together great teams and coaches.

He's one of the best we couldve ever hoped for back 9 years ago. We should be singing this man's praises for not allowing us to become a Nebraska or Tennessee. Other than game day decisions, where are his weaknesses. And after this last year that saw very few game day mistakes, the haters are running out of excuses.

GD started the rebuilding before Nick set foot on campus. The LSU powers to be added to the rebuilding by hiring Nick. Les improved on and continued what both GN and NS did at LSU.

I both respect and enjoy what Nick helped rebuild here, but he has not been here since 04 and its more than time for some "LSU fans" to get over NS and enjoy the never before seen at LSU success provided by Les Miles. imo

Funny that the gumps run a very similar unappealing offense and get any recruit they want.
