Howard is 4th alltime in LSU history in both yards and touchdowns. Now, we can argue that he may be too high on the list due to his high number of starts, but thinking he is one of the least productive QB's in LSU history is just flat untrue.

Howard put up with more jerks than anyone else in LSU history. Leave the guy alone. He played his heart out for some pretty bad teams, and was actually a productive SEC QB. He was certainly better than Loup and Hill, two other QB's from the same era.

Melvin Hill = purple pants game

Randall...we were completely 1 dimensional. I liked Randall, but he just had a noodle arm. Still played hard and we found a way to be successful.

Noodle arm? Not hardly. I remember him completing a 20-yard out against Ole Miss in 2002 that alot of LSU QB's couldn't make...Mr. Clausen could not have even come close.

He actually had some good games throwing the ball. His starting debut against South Carolina, the afermentioned 2002 game against Ole Miss, the '2004 Floriday game, the '02 Kentucky and Arkansas games I think he had productive passing statistics in all of those games.

I think it indicates how spoiled we have become as a fan base that a guy that had a pretty darn good record as a starter like Randall is even mentioned in such a list, much less put first.

He's not even close to that IMHO.

the fanbase's perception of Jamie Howard may still, 15 years later, be the most ignorant topic out there

Jeff Wickersham just called and said he would like to be mentioned in this sentence as well...

But what about Craig Nall, he never did much as an LSU QB, even though he was successful once he transferred and did make it to the NFL.

probably would've had a better shot if Booty had been able to hit a curve ball

Discussions on Tiger Rant such as this serve no positive purpose.

pretty good post, except technically Randall was only around .500 as a starter. Randall 's was an interesting career, winning SEC POW twice off the bench (but then somehow not getting it for that last reg. season game he had at Arky).

I remember watching Rick Clausen coming into a game one time for the Tigers. He was god awful.

How Marcus Randall even was offered a scholarship to LSU blows me away....and how Saban tolerated this guy being his QB is astonishing...say what you want, but he should have never been a "starter" for LSU.

Quarterbacks take the heat for the entire team.
Some of these afore mentioned QB's had bad coaching, bad O'lines, bad receivers. I can't remember any outstandingly bad QB's, but do remember some teams that under achieved.

If little nicky had even thought about running option series and rollouts for MR he would have been way more effective. Was the same mold as Herb Tyler only bigger

All the Marcus Randall comments must've completely forgotten Jamie Howard and Andrew Hatch.

Randall was not that productive, but he at least won a few big games for us. (UF in 04 comes to mind)

However, that's why this season worries me. I'm afraid that JJ is another Randall. He can rollout and throw, with a little bit of running. Remember Randall's debut? A big 38-14 win over So.carolina in 2002. what happened after that? shite. That's what.

Least productive when you factor in INT's and INT's for touchdowns = JL

I remember when Randall started one game going 6 for 6 and a TD pass, Saban took him out after the TD pass

I don't think Randall was as bad as you are claiming he was....Actually I think if Randall's running ability was utilized more he would have been more effective. I remember him outrunning a Texas DB in the Cotton Bowl.

Not certain of the criteria being used to make some of these selections. Here is a partial list of the QB's signed by LSU while I was a student:

Casey Taber
Melvin Hill
Marcus Taylor
Clifton White
Bryan Sparacino

Hard to be any more unproductive than these guys. If the criteria is a QB who saw action than the only answer is Jarrett Lee.

Sparacino--i forgot about him. When Herb went down in the 96 Bama Shaun alexander steamroller debacle, in came Sparacino. wtf was DiNardo thinking in recruiting him? he was an option qb but couldn't run it effectively.

qb depth behind Herb was paper thin for a couple of years there...until Nall and Pudge came along.
