WHO is ODBJ?

His name is Odell Beckham, Jr., not O Dell Beckham, Jr.

If that's the case I'm wondering (hoping) he was thinking "this is the last kind of distraction I need heading into the most important week of my life." not knowing police would go public with the details and screwing him in the process

This!!! BRPD is trash, La'el should have grounds to sue.

The police contacted him last Saturday the day after to talk to him. He refused and left town.
Suppose you know you are innocent, and your attorney is not available when the police want to question you? Do you subject yourself to questioning without your attorney present?

If he knew the girl this situation should have been his number one priority.
If he knew he is innocent then why? It is not his duty to solve crimes in Baton Rouge, and the police could have waited until after the draft since that is what they are doing now.

He screwed himself by not being cooperative in the beginning.
Do you really the Baton Rouge Police Department was going to publicly rule him out as a suspect before they actually make an arrest? The police do not care one iota about the reputations of individuals. It's not their job to perform public relations for people.

How is going to pay for a new agent/attorney? I'm assuming his agent worked on a contingency of him getting drafted and getting his cut out of it. Well right now there's nothing to get a cut of. Same with an attorney.

Just thinking out loud.

@Gil_Brandt: If La'el Collins is cleared after meeting with police tomorrow, he will sign a FA contract. There will a lot of interest.

Looks the mad house starts tomorrow for his services.

1. He is not a suspect. Was never stated he was a suspect. The police wanted to interview him because he is a person close to the victim who may have information that could help the investigation. Does he have a duty to speak to police, no he does not. But most people in this position would speak to the police to assist in the death of a woman and a child the best they could.

2 any lawyer would make himself or an associate available to his client in this situation.

3 I have seen nothing to show that the police went public with anything. His ex girlfriend was murdered and pregnant. News agencies report such things. It would not be difficult for them to tie Lael to the girl as an ex boyfriend. It appears the story came from the NFL. Whether public or non public no nfl team would draft him until this was settled and he met with the police. Not in the wake of Ray rice, Aaron Hernandez and Rae carruth. The police have done nothing wrong. They are actively investigating a murder. Lael had almost a week to speak with police, give information and put this behind him before the draft. He chose to ignore it and leave town and go to Chicago. He did this to himself.

What exactly did he do to himself. Let's say you have a business meeting coming up this week. Then today the cops call you and say someone you knew was murdered and would like to talk with you. You, knowing you have no information on the matter say sure when I get back in town I will come and help in any way I can. You have no reason to drop everything in your life for something you have no connection with. Multiply that times 1000 as this was one of the biggest weeks in Collins life. There were events all week for draft attendees.

This would make sense for everyone unless you are assuming he is guilty.
