I know this subject has been talked about over the years, but is it worth mentioning that preparation is striping the home field advantage from college football. By this I mean that teams are using piped in noise in their indoor facilities and using hand signals and signs from the sidelines to send in plays. It's obviously taking the edge away from the home crowds. In no way do I think this is a bad thing. If anything, it creates more focused, and well-rounded football players. Granted that there are still some mixups, but it seems as though the noise isn't nearly as disruptive as it used to be. For example, the Bama atmosphere in Tuscaloosa for the 2011 game was as rowdy as the gumps can produce and yet LSU went into Bryant Denny and won the game. Last year in Baton Rouge was about as rowdy an atmosphere as we can produce and yet Bama came into death valley and won. I feel like there are a number of factors that are worth mentioning- in the SEC, you play in this kind of atmosphere week after week, advancements in noise preparation throughout the week, depth of rosters on the teams keep fresh, calm bodies on the field, etc. Just wanted to hear y'alls take. It felt pretty demoralizing last year to have Bama come in and win (f'n Yeldon!) when we were rockin the stadium at night. Are we wasting our breath?

Wrong. Sorry. Didn't count.

But you make a good point. LSU has had a ton of success at BDS.

Won in 2001, 03, 05, 07, Had to be cheated to secure it in 09, and "won" in 2011.

Too bad LSU winning the game in November no longer counts, no matter where the game is played.

Like when Geno Smith lined up under the guard vs WV in 2010?

I do think home field advantage has been somewhat nullified, but I think some teams/coaches are better road teams than home teams and vice versa.

For example, I think Bama is a bad home team. Their last 3 losses have come at home. After they beat us last year, AJ was talking about how much pressure to win there is when yuo play for Bama with the tradition and expectations etc. I think their team feels the weight of that much more heavily at home than on the road, thus they play tighter at home.

Ole Miss put up a better fight at BDS than Michigan or ND at neutral sites vs. Bama.

ETA: Also I think Florida is a much more hostile environment than BDS. I've been to at least 10 road games that were more hostile than Bama in '11. I think Bama's fans don't create a home field advantage on par with LSU, UF or even WVU.

don't crucify me, but...

i think "good road teams" are created in practice. that preparation comes from coaching. Miles is as good as it gets when it comes to preparation. In game is an obvious different story.

no disrespect to you, OP, but you are taking one series LSU-Bama and trying to make a point for all of coll fb. home field is still a big deal.

LSU-Bama is a weird series. before saban got there going back to the 60's the only place we used to beat them was tuscaloosa. saban at LSU in 2000 was the 1st win in TS in a few decades. sometimes a good series is born from teams being able to beat each other at their place. i don't think LSU-Bama is indicative of something bigger going on in CFB. but if someone were to bring some numbers to disprove that i'll gladly yield.

if anything i would say parity is more prevalent than ever (despite bama's 3 of 4 NC's) and that probably plays into teams winning on the road.

There you go again with the mulligan thing. Maybe it's because i'm 50 and most of you are much younger. But you clearly don't understand how college football works and has always worked. It is simply based on when you lose if you have any prestige at all. Sure it sucked, but bama went to the end of the line and waited as stanford, oregon and oklahoma state all lost. Teams move past teams that lose. That's the way it is regardless of division or conference standings. End of story!! So quit whining about it. Hopefully the playoff committee will rectify the way it has always been and rank teams based on the entire season. Even in the new system, bama would have made the playoffs and would have likely won it all. We were obviously offensively challenged. And if TM7 didn't make a play then we were most likely not going to score many points.

What really sucked is when bama owned us at tiger stadium from 1969 to the late 90's. But since the early 80's, we have pretty much owned them at bds.

bama was dropped appropriately that year (though they didn't fall far enough last yr with home loss to tamu) but that's not the point now.

the point is, they didn't win their conference. LSU had to play an extra game and risk injury that they didn't have to play. furthermore, winning your conference should count for something in cfb. cfb has the best regular season in sports bc of this. this ended in '11. inserting bama into the title game rendered the game of the century moot.

the bcs had 3 separate occasions to use as a precedent with putting in nebraska when they didn't win their conf vs miami and they got throttled. OU didn't win their conf and everyone was robbed of the LSU-USC matchup. and the right decision was made when mich and ohio state played in the #1 vs #2 matchup in 06 and OSU won. the bcs decided not to give mich a rematch/mulligan and inserted UF instead who won it all.

3 separate instances that could have been used for the BCS to make an informed decision. and they went against history and decided to further hurt the regular season of coll fb.

I wonder if they have trouble at home bc the crowd noise effects their D as much as it affects the visitors offense?

Bama likes to audible a lot, and you know the crowd noise can hamper communication.
