Is it possible that Herron moves back to DE given our now great depth at DT and lack of depth at DE? Is there anyone else who could change positions and provide more depth there?

I've said this before and I'll say it again...Thank goodness we flipped Sione (and his brother) right before NSD last year. Without him, we'd really be screwed right now. At the time, it felt like we were offering Sione just to get Maea, but right now we need Sione WAY more than Maea.

Lewis Neal will probably go back to DE, and with Sione, Clark, Bower, and the freshmen Washington and Key, we should be good.

I would hope so...seems like he might get lost in the logjam at DT(Lacouture, QT, Godchaux, Gilmore, Bain, Valentine, LMFAO, etc.)

Seems like he'd get more PT at DE(Bower, Teuhema, Clark). I like his size as DE against the run.

Herron is a potential move as well. No inside info, but he always played around the 280 range. Probably easier to get him to 260 than it would be to get him to 300.

We only play like 4 DEs really, so having:

Bower
Teuhema
Clark
Patterson
Neal (is a DE, only played DT because of ineptness at DT last season)
Key
Washington

We should be more than fine. Now if Herron is better at DE and can contribute more there, I'm all for a move there.

I hope all of the DL get a clean slate with O and get to where they need to be to provide a solid rotation

Exactly,

Our DE position is neither understaffed nor overstaffed. It's about perfect. We have Clark and Bower who are proven as capable. We have Sione Teuhema who was very good in passing situations, we have Neal who is definitely studly enough to play the position, and we have Patterson. Then we have two recruits, which is exactly what you want every year. No problemo.

this is a good point

Moffit did a great job at leaning out guys in the season leading up to 2011 as well

He didn't say anything about him being a Holliday... You suspect.

You're just listing names. None of them are proven. A couple showed flashes, but we absolutely lack proven depth. Whether or not that becomes an issue, who know. We are a Bower ACL away from having almost zero experience.

We clearly have more depth at DT--both proven and in sheer numbers. If a move outside or 2 helps, I'm all for it.

Agree with Hot Carl. We follow recruiting so all of these names are familiar to us and all are highly regarded. But many of them have not done it in the sec. Until they do, the concern about depth will remain.

Well that's just dumb. He's out of eligibility. But Donte Jackson got that speed off the edge tho.

Funny how last year DT was such a concern, now it's flipped to DE. I'm really focusing more on available experienced players. We have three DTs with significant starting experience. We have zero DEs with the same. Bower, Clark and Teuhema have some PT, but they haven't been in this position before. I'm not worried about Bower, but let's see how Clark and Teuhema respond before we think that they are the answer. Arden Key has the opportunity to get on the field a whole bunch this year.

It was always a blast when opposing fans would take that seriously.
