Did I hear this wrong on Saturday when the guys on espn said the Mr Rushmore would be Skip, Ricky Jones, Ron Maestri, and Robichaux? Not the biggest PM fan but he does after all have one NC. How many do Jones, Maestri, and Robichaux have? Tell me I misheard it, please.

Robichaux should be on there for sure. He's been in Lafayette for 21 years and has taken a bottom feeder program like that to multiple super regionals and a visit to Omaha.

I was looking up all three on wiki and it looks like all four have done more with less since Mainieri has inherited a top tier program and has ONLY won one NC. But he took ND from doormat to power. If you look at his wiki page it is at least as impressive. I give props to the other three but you gotta put PM in there somewhere.

Hardly. If he hadn't hired Alan Dunn, he would be gone.

I think Amin the announcer said "Mt. Rushmore" when he meant elite and respected, and then McDonald rattled off some other names. I don't think they were deciding their list of only 4 coaches. I can't go back and verify it, but that's how I remember the comments.

after Maestri, Skip, Rick, and Robichaux, you can only really make a case for CPM...

Pretty sure all those guys had been or still are in Louisiana for years. CPM hasn't been here long enough I believe is why he was left out. But by the time he retires from LSU I think he will def be in or at the top of that list. It's hard to win ships these days. It was hard back then also but easier for top seeds which we were most of the time.

You most certainly can make a case for Roger Cador.
850-488-1 - Career Record
14 - Conference Championships
8 - NCAA Appearances
3 - NCAA Play-In Games
1st - HBC coach to win a NCAA Tourney Game
All this at SOUTHERN which has facilities worse than most high schools in the state.

Rick jones and Rocichaux would be vying for the 4th and final spot if you are being honest.

Maestri, Bertman, Brockhoff, Rags Scheurmann

The other three have 0 NC's, so they haven't done more with less. They've done less with less.

quote:maybe, but here's the thing- LSU baseball was nothing until Skip got there. You have to give him the credit for making LSU a top seed most of the time, in addition to the actual titles.

Yep. A true ambassador of the game in the state.

I think you have to put Cechinni in there

Most intense and dedicated baseball coach out there! His love for baseball and devotion is untouchable. He is a walking encyclopedia of baseball! There's nobody out there more committed to the game of baseball or to the players. CECHINNI is LEGEND!

How many of those others have over 1000 wins and a NC?
CPM didn't follow Skip...he followed Smoke. Don't forget that.

Tulane and ULL are tougher jobs.

Mase at UNO showed baseball could be successful in the state and led to LSU hiring Bertman and making investments in baseball. His success led to the hirings of Jones and Robe.
Candor and Schuermann deserve a lot of credit for their careers.

What a stupid comment.
So you're saying if not for something he did right that he would be gone?
That's like saying if he didn't recruit so well and win so many games he'd be gone.
