Kiffin: Burrow had "concern" about LSU's offense before transfer

I didn't see this posted anywhere.

It's kind of funny the degree to which Kiffin is involved in O's coaching. He's like part of our shadow staff.

When Burrow made his decision to leave Ohio State, LSU was on his radar, but the plodding pro-style offense the Tigers had run in recent years wasn’t overly appealing to him.
Kiffin said that Burrow’s dad, who actually played for Kiffin’s father at Nebraska, was a fan of LSU, so Burrow looked into a move down to Baton Rouge. That’s when Kiiffin had some discussions with Ed Oregeron, a member of his coaching staffs at Tennessee and USC, about changing the offense at LSU. It was then that Kiffin got a look at Burrow, and was impressed by what he saw.
quote:
"Here's another crazy story for you — Joe Burrow's dad played at Nebraska and I think actually played for my dad at Nebraska, and in the process of deciding what he was doing in the transfer, actually talked at length to his dad because he liked LSU, but his concern was, OK, the development of quarterbacks, and coach O being a defensive guy at the time there — they were kind of struggling on offense," Kiffin said. "So I had actually had conversations with him about — I talked to coach O and they were going to change the offense and get a little more open and not be as conservative as LSU over the years, and so I got to watch Joe in that process and saw a kid that had played a little bit, had done pretty well. But the development of him has been unbelievable. He's just on fire and such a great leader, from what I've seen, and has got himself into (a situation where) he's going to make a lot of money here."

It’s as if he wants to take credit for the Burrow transfer. Never change Lane

Involved how? The article said they simply had a discussion about the offense changing. He says nothing of input. This is basically just friends talking.

He’s just positioning himself to claim a share of our championship.
He did coach at Bama, so he learned from the best.

Kiffin has earned a lifetime pass from LSU fans in my book, and not just for this.

When we win the ship send Joey Freshwater a ring

Burrow would have been crazy had he NOT had a concern about LSU's offense before transfer!

If he helped in any way, he is due some credit. No big deal.

QB development at LSU? about time, and he didn't take credit for that part

If anyone we would have to thank it would be mr. Burrow for liking LSU but i think they both knew what he was capable of and going to nebraska or Cincy wasn't gonna give him this chance. Very lucky he didnt choose Florida.

I would say fortunate for Burrow as well. As much as Mullen is hailed as an offensive guru, I'd bet all I have he wouldn't have near the success he's had here this season.
Burrow, O and LSU hit the trifecta.

Crazy how many overlapping connections there are in coaching. Helps to have guys with the connections of O.
Glad we were able to work the back channels and assuage the concerns of Papa Burrow.

Never the less , it's still a pretty cool story .

Not to mention this ! This statement does nothing to hurt our chances with future qb recruits .

Burrow should thank Joey Bradywater.

Brady is 10x the factor that Kiffin is (or would be).

Obviously, the amazing transformation of Joe Burrow from year one at LSU to this season's Joe Burrow happened under the supervision, tutelage, and guidance of LSU's outstanding QB coach and OC, Steve Ensminger. Who most unknowledgeable LSU fans foolishly hope retires after this season to retain Joe Brady.
Nonetheless, while it is obvious that Joe Brady is responsible for the vast improvement of LSU's receiver corp, it is Steve Ensminger who is responsible for the amazing development and transformation of Joe Burrow during the offseason.
As those two guys, Ensminger and Brady, have an amazing synergy together and I hope Coach O can retain both of them for as long as they want to remain at LSU.
