Key to Victory: The Toss Dive

It's been picked up by several broadcast guys that the key to slowing down Fournette is to get him moving sideways in the backfield. The idea that he is on the way to a gap, gets the ball, then turn him.
The toss dive eliminates that by getting the ball in his hands early.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the last few games the toss dive has been de-emphasized in favor of play action and zone read plays.... it's setting the stage for the return of the toss dive.
Miles is dumb like a fox... I'm expecting >50% of Fournette's touches to be toss dives.
LSU wins by 10+.

the key to fournette's success this year is not the toss dive. it's that he's patient enough to wait for blocks to develop, then choose the right path to take... the toss dive, as it's been said a million times, doesn't allow that much block development.
not that it can't be successful, but if we trust our Oline, it won't be the feature play.
counter right, run left, make one man miss, off to the races is his best right now (statistically)

The ability of Brandon Harris to handle the blitz will determine the outcome more than anything else.

I don't think Bama will blitz much early. They are confident they can get pressure using only their front four. Now if Harris and Fournette can beat it, obviously they will try and adjust.

Several of Fournette's long runs have come when opponents got him running sideways in the backfield. Then he ran around them for big gains. Pundits are idiots. That works on slow power backs.

They key to victory is to not run the TE/FB swing or flat.
Avoid that play and we are good to go.
JD Moore can bowl people over.

It still blows my mind that LB's will still jump outside like it is a normal toss play when we run the toss dive.

It's still the defense's best option. If you let him square his shoulders, you're dead. If you get him running sideways, you at least have a chance.

Do you really think Bama will play a lot of blitz seeing as Harris is just as good with his feet? I would think it would be more contain.

May play a big(ger) role, can run Harris out of it with that little spin move he does. I think they've been setting it up all year.
Will really mess with LB keys, for a while.

Saban likes to disguise it and he's gonna try it for certain. It's up to Harris how much he stays with it.

The key to victory will be the success (or lack thereof) of the play action pass.

I don't disagree that he's gonna try it. I just don't think he'll be able to do it as much as some are saying.

It's turning him sideways between the tackles.
We all know if LF gets outside of the tackles and running wide, that yes he can outrun and turn the corner for bug gains.

this season has caused me to write an apology letter to the toss dive

I think there's a case to be made Miles has been setting this up for 4 years.

I haven't seen this talked about much. This, to me, is the biggest change in freshman LF and sophomore LF. The high school LF was able to get the ball, take off and out run opponents or run over people. He had the same style last year. Certainly if he sees a wide enough gap he takes off and we all know what happens once he gets three yards past the line of scrimmage with room to run. But, it has been noticeable how he has waited for blocks and run behind blockers. The progress in one year has been noticeable and an amazing sight to see.
