I think his point was how is it we can afford to have the highest paid coach but can’t afford to pay players… seems unlikely

That's a fricking lie he never said that and he actually said the opposite. He said the ultimate goal is to get to a place where we're recruiting and developing high school kids and using portal only to fill needed holes.

He’s gonna lose big time on recruits from now on because LSU doesn’t have enough NIL money to run with the big boys. There will be 4 or 5 teams on the SEC that dominate as the big dogs. Somebody I knew used to say “big dogs eat, little dogs look”, that sums up LSU and most of the SEC.

He can recruit and coach. There are kids who have athletic ability equal or close to 4 & 5 stars who aren’t as heavily recruited. Find them. Find them like coaches had to before it was so easy. Then coach them. Bring out the best of their ability & use your scheme to maximize that ability. Like are you fricking kidding me there are 1st & 2nd round picks in the draft every year from small schools that were overlooked in high school. Identify those kids, pay them less & coach them up. No fricking excuses this is LSU.

Kelly should be making about 1 million a year max, thus leaving about 9 million per year for NIL, and if he donated to such, he would have a much better legacy in football. But yes, I realize $ is more important to most.
This 10% rule of what is being paid should also be applied to the entire coaching assistants. then LSU would have plenty of NIL money.
Otherwise, LSU will never keep up.

Texas has great NIL deals, including the local Lambo dealer in Austin. Hard for us to compete with the Aggie/UT when it comes to money. Player development and NFL potential was always our biggest selling point. Not looking great for defensive players

Actually, BK stated numerous times a program is built through recruiting and the portal helps fill small gaps or depth. He also stated before the season began that we aren’t there yet and still in building mode through recruiting. People want to believe what makes them feel better, but those were his statements.

Kelly didn't lose 2 DL's to Texas A$$$$$$M he was out bid. A$$$$$$$M and Texas has gobs of money, much more than us and most SEC schools if not all. Until we get donors to show em the money this will continue.

Lsu was going after the 5 star back from Texas against UT. He signed with UT. His quote” at the end of the day I had to do what’s best fir my family”. It’s about the money for a lot of these kids. The 5 star guys are a hot commodity. That commodity has a market value now.
