Reading Dandy Don this morning with regards to Perkins, and Kelly doesn’t appear to be in an agreement with everyone else. We all believe that Perkins was terribly misused, and should return to his position last year and play to his strengths. Dandy quoted Kelly as saying “ it’s a new position for him so there is a learning curve.”
I think that’s significant and very disappointing to hear. Perkins apparently only rushed the passer on 7 plays .
It’s also concerning about all of the other glaring problems that need fixing.
Heard needs to start. Lacy needs to sit. Harris and Welch need to play. I really hope that Kelly doesn’t sit back and go nothing!

I'm legit getting late era Les Miles flashbacks.

He'll dig his heels in just prove "his point" about Perkins, results be damned.

Not good.

After the game he said “Last year he was a find ball get ball”

Yes please that sounds good.. can we put him back to find ball get ball. Seemed to work pretty well
I mean isn’t that the primary goal of a defensive player ? Find ball get ball ?

Come hell or high water this team is not going to push the ball down the field. He's riding with his qb to the point we had Howard transfer to be in the same position at a lesser school.

He is Les 2.0. Others will try to argue because he doesn’t have an archaic running game but he coaches the same and is clearly at this point out of his league. The only difference is Les could recruit and obviously won a championship

To neuter Perkins ability is criminal. What I saw from Perkins last year was generational talent. The way that he took over game’s reminded me of Honey Badger when he was here. I cannot understand the thinking behind taking that ability away!

I'm sure we won't hear about it, but it would be interesting to hear what Perkins AND his parents think about this move. He is a top-5 national DEF player and on some pre-season Heisman lists. He brings a measurable impact to any game, or at least did from the OLB/edge position.

Can he become another D. White, maybe in time, but he is not a thumper. Can be become another Von Miller? Very likely with his speed, size, and athletic ability. I don't want to see Perkins at ILB vs Miss St, Ark and OM (Lane Kiffin will be laughing about this one). With HP at OLB/edge and Smith, Wingo, Swinson/S. Jones lined up next to him, and with Speights & Penn lined up behind them, we'll be hard to beat and along the way 'cover' some of our secondary deficiencies which can improve with more reps.

The time to switch and learn new positions is in High School or during your redshirt year. After you become a starter and are hugely successful in one position, then it's criminal to try and switch.

I don't see many changes from last year. Same offense, Same defense minus the great pass rusher. We were promised great improvement downfield at the quaterback position only to see that wasn't the case at all. The running game went from bad to awful.

I keep hearing Les 2.0 but at least Les had one part of an offense. Right now, we have a <15yd passing game and a qb scramble. That's it. Throw in the bad in game coaching decisions like going for 4th over and over and refusing to take points when we have no offense makes me wonder if he doesn't think he's the new mad hatter. The only problem is you have to have elite talent to pull of stupid decisions again and again.

nailed it. and some fans can't figure out why we want to at least give another qb a chance at running the offense.

I can't disagree that it was his first game at a new position. The issue was that he seemed totally lost. Prior he was playing off instinct. He appeared to be overthinking during the game. That should improve as the season goes on.

Lots of posts about Harold Perkins. He peaked in the Arkansas game. He demolished them. But Jimbo & Smart did something with their scheme to make Perkins less effective in A & M & UGA game.

Best comment I heard postgame was “that TE waggle to Mason Taylor is the new toss dive”

He has already dug his heels in on JD. We will look back three years from now when Nuss is starting in the NFL and JD is at best on a practice squad and say WTF was Kelly thinking. We literally have NFL arm talent sitting on the bench. If Kelly can't get that talent on the field on a consistent basis because he does not have his trust, well that is a glaring view of his lack of coaching ability. I know for a fact a Lan Kiffin, Nick Saban, Hugh Freeze, etc. would not have NFL arm talent sitting on the bench this long.

Because "everyone else" has a foolish point of view.

What you guys want is actually impossible. Do you think Harold Perkins would stay at LSU if we consigned him to see-ball-get-ball? Of course not; he has a career to think of.

Last year this board bitched that Perkins wasn't on the field more. That was because he had no position. You can't put Perkins at edge because he is not big and strong enough to play DE in a 4-3.

The only ways to get him on the field without putting him at MLB is to play him at nickel or switch to a 3-4.

Good coaches will, if a player is one dimensional.

Not that he's the same caliber player, but look at Zach Baun. 3-4 OLB/edge rusher. Saints moving him inside NEVER panned out

Effective running game.

Perkins is built like a safety. Can’t hold up to linemen.

I’m legitimately shocked by how many people were blindsided by this. They spent an entire offseason training him at a new position. They aren’t going to change it after one game.

As for you wanting to see Lacy sit and Welch & Harris get action, I think you might be disappointed there too. Chris Hilton and Welch barely saw any game time Sunday and Harris didn’t even travel.
