Nothing unique about this to LSU. I left at half time last night for several reasons. It was a blow out, I beat traffic, and there was more competitive football games on TV that I wanted to catch atleast parts of.

I would not leave the game if it's against a good opponent and a close game. But for the teams of NT, Towson, and Idaho you can betcha arse I'm leavin early.

What it boils down to is that since there is a serious lack of traffic and pedestrian control if I get to my car before 90% of the people get to their vehicles I can get home in 15 minutes. If I wait for a game like this one to be over then it will take at least 45 minutes and sometimes twice that to get home.
Now if it's a close or a good game and everyone else stays til the end then I stay and can still be in my vehicle before 95% of the people can get to their vehicle and still be home watching more football in 15 minutes.

A lot of people are more interested in drinking and partying for the tailgate, an couldn't care less about the game. It pisses me off so bad when some arse at our tailgate, who has been drinking since 8am ask who are we playing today. These types of douche bags are the ones who will bitch how certain players suck, and can't even comprehend how much dedication the players put into a season.

LSU should schedule better opponents if they want people to stay

what a boring game. Shouldn't charge $100+ to watch a non competitive game

Can't post at the game or anywhere around the stadium.

I always view the traffic problems at Saints & Tiger games to be worth going to the game. Hell sit there in traffic and enjoy the post game shows on the radio. I view it as part of the experience

That's always been my feelings about it. Depends on your perspective, I guess. Traffic doesn't bother me, and I enjoy listening to the radio shows and discussing the game.

no such thing as very unique.

But it's amazing how often one reads or hears otherwise intelligent people use a qualifier with the word "unique."

This happens during SEC games, top 10 matchups (LSU vs V-Tech in 2007) etc.

Most LSU fans are there for the party, football is second or third on the priority list. LSU has maybe 25,000 true FOOTBALL fans.

Like V-Tech (a top 10 matchup) in 2007 when Herbstreit was calling out LSU fans for bailing during the 3rd qtr?

I'm curious. Do the Saints fans leave early? It's hard to tell on TV because the Dome seats always look full even when it's Tulane

But seriously, I have been to maybe three Saints games in forty years and the last one was in 2010. I don't recall anyone leaving early. Well, not many like here.

It is a phenomenon that I don't get either...I have always been one to arrive early and stay til the end. To each his own. I will say this though...I was watching the 4th quarter of the Georgia game yesterday...and that stadium was literally almost EMPTY. It was brutally hot there yesterday and I get that. I saw the Oregon game last night in the 4th quarter. More than half of their fans were gone as well. It doesn't just happen here.

Well, today's fans would have missed Billy Cannon's great run because they left early. Here is my thoughts on why.

1950's No scripting. Cajun bands on flatbed trucks playing Cajun music before the game. People smoking and drinking at will. Tickets maybe $4. Maybe five college games televised all season for all NCAA teams.

1960's TV. Price increases. Longer games due to popularity of offense.

1970's 80's and 90's...Lots of bad years, several good. Ticket price creep. Commercial advertising and piped in music and cracking heads on alcohol and tobacco. Endless endless TV timeouts for advertising making most games over four hours if televised.

Early 90's...WFWIT when we can party in our camper?

Early 00's ...Camper parking rates escalate into the stratosphere as well as ticket prices. Student shakdowns for booze. Whinny fans complaining about drunks and cops throwing them out.

Way too many games on TV from Wednesday through Saturday night. Probably a six or seven were good. Add in traffic and weather and we have todays grandkids of my great 1950's generation that stayed to watch Billy :)

I don't guess that I will fully understand it. It's part of who we are I guess. My theory is that all of the pre-game activities and excitement just wear people out and they are ready to go by half time because the game, when compared with the rest of the party, is boring.
Maybe some of the people who leave the games can explain and enlighten those of us who stay for the whole thing?

There could be several reasons. Perhaps the working class "real" fans have been priced out of the stadium in favor of corporations who don't give a shite. While I do think there is some truth to that, it doesn't explain why our fans leave the place in droves before the end of the 3rd quarter. It didn't use to be this way.

My theory is that it's gotten to the point where tailgating is the main attraction for most people and the actual game is sort of an afterthought. Our fans care more about partying and getting shite-faced than they do about keeping their asses in the stands for 4 quarters. It's a shame, and frankly a bit embarrassing when the game is televised, but it is what it is. People pay for their tickets so they have the right to do as they please.

For those who left early to beat the traffic, then don't get upset when several of the big time recruits who attended the game were turned off by poor support for the #3 team in the country. Halftime score was not a blowout. But this has been going on for several yrs now & I guess it takes an oldtimer such as I am to appreciate a great team & not worry bout 45 minutes of sitting in traffic post game. People come at 8:00 am, party till 6, leave at halftime or soon afterwards: do the math. Why come out at all?

any recruit that would let fans leaving early affect his decision on where to play football is not worth the time. I would guarantee just about zero recruits decide where to play based on fans leaving early during the blowout of a cupcake.
